The content for the first Class of ‘28 player rankings has been flowing. Our staff has featured quite a few of the 60 ranked freshmen, but there's still plenty more to be mentioned. Which is why we'll be breaking down two more position groups in this report.

Out of the 60 prospects that joined the rankings, just three defensive backs made their debuts. The athlete group on the other hand accounted for a good portion of the top half of the rankings, as six claimed spots inside the Top 25. Here's a look at where these players landed.

Defensive Backs

[player_tooltip player_id='1544712' first='Eli' last='Tagg'] - Winfield, 6'3”, 170

Tagg of Winfield claimed the No. 1 defense back rank in this initial update, and he's the 23rd ranked prospect overall. He received limited varsity action in his first high school season, but given his current frame, Tagg is likely a player that could compete for a starting job next year.

[player_tooltip player_id='1399836' first='Damauri' last='Peeples'] - Topeka West, 5'6”, 170

Coming in as the 2nd ranked defensive back in the class is Peeples of Topeka West. Peeples doesn't have much film yet from his freshman season, but the few varsity snaps he does have on his Hudl account are impressive. These snaps I'm referring to were quality reps against two of the top wideouts in the state. He's a young corner that folks should keep an eye on.

[player_tooltip player_id='1530430' first='Khyron' last='Taylor'] - Wichita West, 5'6”, 150

Rounding off the defensive backs group is Taylor of Wichita West. Taylor managed to earn quite a few varsity snaps in his first high school season. Despite some struggles he put together solid numbers for a freshman. He racked up 23 total tackles, one interception, one pass breakup, and came up with a field goal block.

Athletes

[player_tooltip player_id='1210656' first='Ryan' last='Whitney'] - Olathe South, 5'8”, 135

Four of the top athletes were revealed when the rankings went live on Tuesday, so we'll be highlighting the remaining three. Whitney of Olathe South starts us off first for this group. He made his debut just outside the Top 10 at No. 11 overall, and he is the 5th ranked athlete in the class.

[player_tooltip player_id='1285994' first='Jax' last='Lemmon'] - Blue Valley North, 5'8”, 140

This next player is going to be one to watch during the 7-On-7 circuit and throughout the upcoming offseason. Lemmon of Blue Valley North checks in at No. 13 overall and is the 6th ranked athlete in the class. He may be grouped with the athletes, but the film he's put together gives him a strong case to be considered one of the top receivers in the class. Lemmon is a player that has the potential of being a contributor next season.

[player_tooltip player_id='1455235' first='Archer' last='Amrein'] - Hill City, 6'1”, 170

The final prospect from this report is [player_tooltip player_id='1455235' first='Archer' last='Amrein'] of Hill City. The benefit of playing in the 8-Man ranks compared to other classifications is seeing the varsity field early, and Amrein hasn't flinched when his number has been called this season. Offensively through 10 games he's racked up 480 yards of total offense and has accounted for five total touchdowns. Defensively Amrein has recorded 36 total tackles with one sack and one interception. His standout play earns him a spot at No. 26 overall.
