As the season is winding down and you look back at some of the prospects to turn heads, you would be surprised at how many underclassmen grabbed the spotlight.

It is not unusual in this state to have freshmen and sophomores step up and not only take control physically, but also make an impact as team leaders.

Over the next year, we will continue to bring you football prospects – in all classes – who continue to get it done.

Today as we all give thanks on this joyous holiday, we also look at five Class of 2027 now rising juniors.

Have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving.

WHAT TO LIKE: For a program that has cruised through the season, here is one of the young prospects that figures to keep Vikings near the top for years to come. His first step overwhelms any lineman he went against this past season as this team is looking for a state championship. Had 18 tackles for loss to go with 40 tackles and seven quarterback sacks.

WHAT TO LIKE: The first thing you notice when watching him play is his ability to get behind the secondary, combining speed with knowledge of how to run routes from the slot position or outside. He is someone who picks up things quickly and will continue to get better when the focus starts to move in his direction in the off-season. Led the Cougars into the post season.

WHAT TO LIKE: Any time you have a football player who can line up at multiple positions and compete at each one of them, you must be impressed. Whether it's as a running back, slot receiver or in the secondary, here is certainly a prospect that has an opportunity to be special. Coming off a solid season where this team advanced to the state playoffs, he had the chance to showcase his speed and athleticism. Also gets it done in the classroom – with a 3.5 GPA.

WHAT TO LIKE. As this team plays for a chance to head back to the state title game this week, you need to see what has put the Cowboys back in this place once again this season. Here is a promising lineman who will make an impact on both sides of the ball – like he has shown this season. Strong, quick and agile are three words that describe his play. His motor never stops, and as he matures and gets stronger, this is a student/athlete that has a chance to be very special for years to come.

WHAT TO LIKE: When you happen to play for a smaller program, you are asked to do multiple things to help the team. Here is a classic football player who will do anything it takes, and that is something that everyone appreciates. Whether it's playing quarterback – where he has arm strength, athleticism and speed, or as a defensive back, this is one of those prospects that you write down and follow what he does over the next two years. You must be aware of where he is on every snap. He is a total package that has already set the tone in the classroom as well – with a 3.5 GPA.
