FOUNTAIN INN | A real-life hurricane turned the Wren Hurricanes' bye week into a bye month. After an emotionally draining 29-day period since its last game, Wren returned to action Friday night and played like it had not missed a beat. The one-two punch of senior running back [player_tooltip player_id='1253994' first='Reese' last='Price'] and senior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1158040' first='Colten' last='Bagwell'] combined for 427 yards of total offense as the Hurricanes rolled past Fountain Inn, 49-12.

Wren (4-1, 1-0 Region I-4A) was coming off a tough 36-29 loss to T.L. Hanna in which Price was stripped of the ball as he neared the goal line for what could've been a game-tying touchdown with less than three minutes left. That was way back on Thursday, Sept. 12 though. After having its bye week the following Friday, Wren couldn't play either of the next two weeks because of the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. Before Helene hit, tragedy struck the program when senior running back [player_tooltip player_id='1145268' first='Isaac' last='Wigington'] was involved in a serious car accident on Sept. 22 and he remains hospitalized.

There were handshakes and hugs between the teams prior to Friday's game. That followed a ceremony in which Fountain Inn principal Stephanie Smith and coach Brett Nichols presented Wren coach Anthony Frate with a football for Wigington signed by the Fury team.

"We love him and he's fighting," Frate said of Wigington after the game. "Our team's been through a lot in the last month. ... For them to come out and do what they did tonight, I've got nothing but great things to say about them."

It took Wren about three plays to shake the rust off Friday. After Price's 10-yard run on the game's first play was wiped out by a holding play, Bagwell had deep incomplete passes on first-and-20 and second-and-20, respectively. Bagwell didn't throw another incompletion the rest of the night. His run of eight consecutive completions began with another deep throw on third-and-20 when he connected with Max Whitfield on a 73-yard touchdown.

The Hurricanes really set the tone for the game on their next possession. Price carried the ball on each of Wren's first five plays, collecting 43 yards, before Bagwell found Brock Cherry in the end zone for an 18-yard touchdown. It was a great catch by Cherry, who was well-covered.

"We were hungry. ready to play and amped up. We came out and performed," Bagwell said. "I think those early passes immediately made them think maybe we were going come out and throw it a little bit. Instead, we were able to pound it. Reese had a great game."

Early in the second quarter, Wren senior [player_tooltip player_id='605526' first='Tyler' last='Morgan'] returned a punt 69 yards to set up a two-yard keeper for a score by Bagwell.

Fountain Inn (4-2, 0-1) answered when sophomore quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='429920' first='Sam' last='Holliday'] scored from two yards out on a fourth down to cut the lead to 21-6.

Price ran for a six-yard touchdown with 3:02 left and caught a 20-yard scoring pass with 53 seconds left to give Wren a commanding 35-6 lead at the break.

The Fury took the opening possession of the second half for a score when Holliday hit Will Knight with a 21-yard touchdown pass on fourth-and-eight, slicing the lead to 35-12.

Any thought of a comeback was dashed on Wren's ensuing possession when Price added a passing touchdown to his big night. His 10-yard scoring toss to tight end Ethan Harkness made it a 30-point game with 5:48 left in the third quarter.

"We've had a lot of things going on with the hurricane and our teammate and it just fueled us all week," Price said. "We just wanted to get back out here fired up and ready. ... The o-line just did a great job opening up the holes for me."

The Hurricanes wrapped up the scoring in the fourth quarter when backup running back Josiah Mosley scored from five yards out. Mosley carried the ball on every play in the 10-play drive.

Price ran 27 times for 214 yards, as well as the 20-yard touchdown catch and 10-yard touchdown pass. Bagwell finished with 169 yards on 8-of-10 passing and had 44 yards rushing on five attempts. Mosley finished with 84 yards on 14 carries.

"Reese is a kid that doesn't say a whole lot. He cares in ways that a lot of high school kids don't. He's always asking and digging for information and trying to evaluate things," Frate said. "He's earned those yards because the weight room kind of shows your character and he's a beast in the weight room. ... We'll go as he and Colten go. They really are two great players."

Holliday ran 23 times for 96 yards and completed 8-of-25 passes for 118 yards with no interceptions for the Fury. Freshman CJ Thomas-Anderson had 10 carries for 66 yards, while [player_tooltip player_id='1603971' first='Bojack' last='Johnson'] had 51 yards rushing on 11 attempts also for Fountain Inn.
