Week 10 Recap: Groveport Madison vs Canal Winchester

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>To wrap up my regular season, I traveled to Canal Winchester on Saturday to watch a very anticipated rivalry matchup. In this rivalry edition, the Cruisers of Groveport Madison took down the Indians of Canal Winchester 29-27. Against Canal Winchester, Joyce lined up in the backfield and on the defensive line where he found success on both sides of the ball. Early in the game, Joyce stripped the ball out of the hands of a Canal Winchester ball carrier, leading to a scoop and score for his defense. He plugged many run gaps in his way, and eventually, Canal ran away from him. A star basketball player, Bowden uses his athleticism and speed to evade would-be tacklers. His arm is strong, and he can throw off balance at a good level. His strides are long, and his size gives him a great advantage over smaller, weaker defensive backs. He can track the ball well and can come back to get balls over defenders. He uses his size well, often lying under the ball and using his frame to make some athletic plays. Saturday, he intercepted a ball on the first drive of the game that led to an offensive touchdown for Groveport Madison. As the bell cow back for Canal Winchester, he is good with patience and letting play develop and is fantastic at gaining every yard he can. In an offense that wants to primarily run the ball, Howard's abilities and the respect he garners from opposing defenses open up their play-action passing game, which saw success Saturday. At his size, he is very aggressive towards the ball and doesn't look out of place when play gets physical. He is a sure tackler and extremely athletic. On the opening drive for Groveport Madison in the second half, Jackson came down with the best interception I have seen live this season. He does contribute to the offensive side of the ball as well, serving as a replacement for Corey Howard at running back at times. His cut ability and the way he shoots gaps show the potential he has for next season as he may see improved playing time on that side of the ball next season for a graduation Howard. Harmon can play as wide or narrow as you need him to be, as he can serve as a great blitzer or a zone defender near the boundary. Saturday, Harmon came off the edge as a blitzer and got home a few times to start a run of 25 unanswered points for his Indians.
