Small School Spotlight: Raton-Legacy Academy (Recap and Video)

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>BERNALILLO</strong> – Legacy Academy still hasn't lost an 11-man football game in school history.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Silverbacks remained unbeaten and improved to 6-0 in their inaugural season playing 11-man football with Thursday night's 34-0 victory over Raton in a District 2A-2 matchup at Bernalillo High School, Legacy's temporary home for this season.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>After both teams had touchdowns nullified by penalties in the first quarter, Legacy snapped a scoreless stalemate and began to pull away from the Tigers by scoring three touchdowns in the final 4 minutes of the first half.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Silverbacks opened the scoring&nbsp; when dynamic dual threat quarterback <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1600087' first='Lorenzo' last='Sedillo-Urban']</strong> powered his way down the right sideline after faking a handoff for a 27-yard TD run with just under four minutes left in the second quarter.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>But he wasn't done for the opening half. Sedillo-Urban then tossed TD passes to <strong>Aydan Pimentel</strong> (43 yards) and <strong>Adam Quesada</strong> to give Legacy Academy a 21-0 intermission lead.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The 18-yard scoring pass to Quesada came on a well-designed play in which Sedillo-Urban took the shotgun snap, rolled right, turned and found Quesada alone on the left side after circling out of the backfield undetected by the Raton defense, which had flowed to the left in response to Sedillo-Urban's initial movements.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Quesada gave Legacy Academy a 28-0 lead at the 7-minute mark of the fourth quarter with a 73-yard Pick-6 interception return. Quesada finished his brilliant night with 67 yards rushing on 9 carries, 18-yard TD reception, 9 tackles on defense, Pick-6 and 158 all-purpose yards.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Legacy Academy added a final TD late in the fourth quarter when they converted a fumble recovery into a rushing TD by bruising RB <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1595657' first='Noah' last='Sanchez']</strong>.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Sanchez finished with 74 rushing yards on a team-high11 carries, just one yard less than Sedillo-Urban (8 carries, 75 yards). The Silverbacks averaged 7.4 yards per carry and totaled 216 yards on the ground, 324 yards overall.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Sedillo-Urban was 6-of-16 passing for 108 yards and 2 TD.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Sophomore <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1606048' first='Xander' last='Chavez']</strong> (10 tackles, 2.0 TFL, 2 sacks, 3 QB hurries, 1 forced fumble) led the stellar defensive effort by Legacy Academy, which preserved the shutout by stopping Raton on downs inside the 5-yard line early in the fourth quarter. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1600084' first='Luke' last='Sanchez']</strong> also had 3 QB hurries.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Legacy Academy's defense amassed 3 interceptions and 11 QB hurries en route to registering its third straight shutout and fourth of the season. The last team to score on the Silverbacks was Hozho Academy in Legacy Academy's 53-3 victory in Week 3. The last team to score a TD against the Silverbacks defense?
