Sioux Central ran all over East Sac County on Friday night, and a significant portion of the 441 total rushing yards from that game came from Kinnick Fahrenkrog. In what was one of the best singular-game rushing performances from an Iowa RB all season, Fahrenkrog ran for 311 yards on 44 carries and 5 touchdowns while adding a 14 yard reception. Leading a power-heavy run game, Fahrenkrog took a lot of his carries through the middle with ease, showing great balance and precision working through the small gaps and completely shredded the defense. Heading into the postseason, Fahrenkrog will continue to be utilized as the primary workhorse that the offense will build around.

Noah Borcherding only carried the ball 10 times on Friday night as Dike-New Hartford rolled past Denver at home. However, he turned the light workload into 220 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns as he just eclipses the 1000 yard mark to end his senior season. Borcherding has been one of the most dangerous open-field runners in Class 1A, and he was consistently able to get outside the defenders with his speed and break off long runs for scores. Borcherding has been the biggest playmaker for the Wolverines this season, and he will look to continue delivering his best on the ground as Dike-New Hartford enters the postseason with an impressive 7-1 record.

Isaac Bruns left his mark this season in a big way, and in one of the most lopsided matchups of the season against Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont, Bruns stood out in a run-offense that finished with 478 total rushing yards. Bruns had 192 yards on just 7 carries and 3 touchdowns. Yes, you read the stat line correctly, Bruns was simply unstoppable whenever he touched the ball, finding the open lanes and showing off ridiculous breakaway speed whenever he got a crease. Bruns finishes the year as the leader in rushing touchdowns (21) in class 1A, and he ranks 2nd in the conference in rushing yards. Bruns should remain as a difference-maker as the Cobras enter the postseason with a 7-1 record.

Lucas Heilman finishes the 2024 season third on the team in rushing yards playing in a deep backfield, but he had a big night to wrap up the regular season in a home blowout over MVAOCOU. Heilman finished with 175 yards on 17 carries and 3 touchdowns. Heilman handled the workload well, taking strong carries up the middle, making quick movements and shifts in direction based on his reads, doing a great job throughout the night maneuvering through the box. As Ridge View takes on the recent state-semifinalist Underwood team this week, Heilman could continue seeing a larger sum of carries in that backfield based on his production.

Pocahontas Area ended the 2023 regular season by winning their first game against Eagle Grove, and freshman Karson Welander led the way to ending the year on a positive note. Welander ran for 189 yards on 23 carries and 2 touchdowns. Welander, who hasn't seen much playing time this year looked confident as the lead-back, standing tall, showing poise and solid vision in the backfield as he was able to churn out some nice chunk gains through the night. Welander will be a name to watch out for moving forward for Pocahontas Area.

South Hamilton delivered on Senior night with a whopping 582 yards of rushing in the upset win over Grand View Christian, and Ashton Williams contributed to that staggering total greatly, finishing with 157 rushing yards on just 12 carries and 3 touchdowns. Williams surprised me throughout the night with his speed and explosiveness through the line, making great strides in his runs and breaking off into the open with ease as the Thunder had no answer to contain him. Williams' speed makes him a significant threat even, especially playing for a deep backfield that South Hamilton has.

One of the other big name runners for South Hamilton on Friday night was junior [player_tooltip player_id='1370676' first='Kolby' last='Hodnefield'], who translated his 10 carries into a team-high 189 rushing yards and an 88 yard touchdown in the win. He also added 3 kick returns for 180 yards and a 92 yard return touchdown. Hodnefield's vision really impressed me whenever he carried the ball, being capable of making sharp changes in his direction on a dime, and he's impressively athletic, successfully hurdling over a defender at one point. Hodnefield's efforts in the backfield should continue to shine as South Hamilton heads to the playoffs.
