Sioux Central finished the 2024 season by claiming their first winning record since 2019, and Gavin Casey stepped up with big plays in the backfield that helped the defense edge out East Sac County. Casey finished with 8.5 tackles (7 solo), 1.5 TFLs, and 1.5 sacks in the win. Casey played at the slot DB position throughout the night, and taking on a lot of short passes throughout the night, Casey did a great job reading the plays and motions from the offense and limiting the passing game from breaking big runs while also blitzing from the nickel to get to the QB. Casey has done a solid job as a slot defender this season, and he should continue to deliver in the postseason as Sioux Central takes on South Hamilton this week.

Durant ended the regular season with a low-scoring win over West Branch, and Colby Gast played a significant role for Durant in all three aspects of the game. On the defense, Gast recorded 5.5 tackles (5 solo), 1.5 TFLs, and an interception. He also recorded 4 receptions for 101 yards and a touchdown along with 29 return yards on 3 total returns. Despite his smaller size, Gast plays with blistering speed and a level of tenacity that drove Durant on Friday night, utilizing that speed well in coverage throughout the game. Gast would ultimately finish the regular season with his first pick of the year, and hopefully he will add to that total during the postseason.

Christian Valenzuela made a key play on Friday night that proved critical in giving Pocahontas Area their first win of the season. Valenzuela finished the night with 3 tackles and an interception which he returned 92 yards which set up a touchdown for the offense. Valenzuela helped fluster the passing game for Eagle Grove, in which no receiver recorded more than 2 catches during the night against Valenzuela, and the pick proved to be a difference maker as Pocahontas Area was able to distance their lead. Valenzuela will hopefully have more in store heading into his senior year.

During Treynor's shutout win on the road against Missouri Valley, Will Parrott took the field during senior night and capped his high school football career in exciting fashion, recording 2 picks as he stood out among that dominant defense. Parrott showed great eye precision and timing on his jumps to attack for the ball, and having seen limited playing time over this last season, Parrott's efforts and commitment was rewarded by making two statement plays for the night. Parrott could see more playing time during the postseason if he continues playing like this.

Sigourney Keota had one of the most lopsided victories of the season in a 79-6 rout over Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont, and athlete Brady Clark stood out among the secondary as he recorded his 3rd interception of the season. Clark finished the night with 3 tackles and a pick which he returned 65 yards for a touchdown, while adding a 64 yard touchdown reception. The pick-six was his second of the year as well, and he's proven with this performance that he's dangerous when the ball gets in his hands, and the offense will risk having the ball being taken to the house the other way if Clark gets to it. Clark's reliability in coverage and playmaking ability should translate well into the postseason as Sigourney Keota looks to make a deep run in the playoffs.

Senior Brock Patzner played a key role in Manson-NW Webster pulling off a massive upset win against Emmetsburg this week. Patzner recorded 2 tackles and an interception in the win. Patzner's pick came in the second half on one of four total passing attempts from Emmetsburg all night, and while despite not seeing as many reps during the night as the second Safety in a secondary who's base defense utilizes one Safety, Patzner made the most of his reps. Patzner could continue as an underrated weapon in that secondary during the postseason.
