In honor of National Tight End's Day, I wanted to highlight some of Nebraska's more under-the-radar tight-end prospects. In recent years, we've seen several elite players emerge at this position and go on to play high-level college football.

Here are five tight ends who should be receiving more looks on the recruiting trail:

Norfolk Catholic's [player_tooltip player_id='1314950' first='Braeden' last='Burbach'] is a player I could see ending up on a college football or basketball roster next season. Even playing on the back-to-back champions and standing at 6'7", it's very surprising to see Burbach remain under the radar at this point in his recruitment. Burbach is a tall, lengthy pass-catcher with good size and strength that could make him an absolute terror in the redzone. With a basketball background, Braeden has good instincts when boxing out defenders on jump balls and has the hops to go up and get the ball at its highest point. There's limited tape on Braeden, but enough to see a very high ceiling for the Norfolk Catholic prospect. DL potential!

Omaha North's [player_tooltip player_id='319525' first='Deon' last='Cooper'] has quietly been a consistent contributor to the Viking's offense, often finding ways to get open on crucial downs and can lay some nice blocks in the run game. Cooper projects very well as a TE/H-Back hybrid who won't necessarily create size mismatches but has the athleticism and football IQ to find ways to make plays. Deon has especially stepped up this season as he's shown good instincts for finding open passing windows to help a scrambling QB. Cooper also showed that he can be pretty good after the catch, with enough wiggle to make defenders whiff, and is more than willing to drop the pads to plow through a defender. Effective blocker. Cooper currently holds an offer from Dakota State but could draw more attention by the season's end after a solid senior year thus far.

[player_tooltip player_id='402162' first='Owen' last='Sutter'] (Twitter), 2026 - Yutan - 6'3" 230 lbs

A very interesting two-way prospect here! Yutan's [player_tooltip player_id='402162' first='Owen' last='Sutter'] has been on our radar since before his freshman season and continues to impress with his development each coming year. Sutter is a big-bodied tight end at 6'3" and 230 pounds who plays with quite the mean streak. Sutter is a super physical blocker who combines the technique and strength of a lineman but with the athleticism of a tight end. Owen is not satisfied with just a good block; no, he's always looking to drive his opponent into the dirt to finish his block. Good power and leg drive when engaged with defenders. However, blocking is just the half of it, as Sutter also flashes nice skills when you can get him the ball. He has reliable hands at the catch point and the toughness to hang on through contact. Sutter also does a nice job after the catch, using his size to bulldoze over defenders to keep tacking on extra yardage. Sutter ended his junior season with 21 catches for 230 yards and a receiving touchdown.

Talk about a guy who's not afraid to get their hands dirty. Lincoln Southeast's [player_tooltip player_id='795743' first='Caden' last='Ward'] has emerged as one of, if not the best, blocking tight ends in his class. Ward does an excellent job working with the offensive line to carry out blocking schemes and can be relied on to anchor down and set the edge on outside runs. He displays good explosiveness in his hips, allowing him to fire out of his stance and generate a good push when making initial contact. Ward is also a solid pass-catcher who can provide his QB with a reliable target in the middle of the field. Overall a good athlete who contributes on all three phases of the game but will likely play tight end at the next level!

[player_tooltip player_id='487608' first='Dallas' last='Gaius'] (Twitter), 2026 - Millard South - 6'4" 200 lbs

Stuck in a logjam of talent at the tight end position for Millard South, junior [player_tooltip player_id='487608' first='Dallas' last='Gaius'] has still managed to make the most of the playing time he receives. Dallas is a versatile player who fits the "flex-TE" role due to his ability to be moved across the formation to take advantage of mismatches. One thing that sticks out about Dallas' game is his fluid route-running ability, which allows him to move like a receiver and create separation against defenders. His lengthy frame gives him a massive catch radius that is very QB-friendly and helps him to make catches outside his frame. I was also very impressed with Dallas' blocking as an in-line tight end and out on the perimeter when lined up at receiver. Dallas should blow up as more opportunities come his way.
