District 8-4A foes E.D. White and Lutcher squared off Friday in a pivotal game in the league race and one of each's biggest tests thus far overall.

And when the dust settled on a hard-fought battle, the home-standing Bulldogs (6-0, 4-0) had managed to take control with largely lockdown defense and a handful of big, pivotal plays on both sides of the ball to remain undefeated, 27-20.

Here are a few notes on some of the standout performers from the evening.

The Ragin' Cajuns commit scored three of Lutcher's four touchdowns, including a pair of highlight-reel explosive plays, to help lead the offense in the victory. The versatile weapon torched a defensive back 58 yards up the sideline for a deep catch for his first score, then added a goal-line run and finally a 93-yarder on which he shook past one defender, ran through another attempted tackle and bounced outside and off to the races.

[player_tooltip player_id='710270' first='Reshad' last='Sterling'] — 6-3, 235 DL — Lutcher (2025)

The Bulldogs' other Division-I commit helped spearhead the defensive effort with his disruptive play up front as he frequently made his way into the E.D. White backfield for plays behind the line and proved himself able to generate pressure even when battling against double teams. Sterling remains pledged to Houston, but in-state LSU and Tulane continue to stay in the mix to potentially keep him closer to home by December.

The instinctive and physical defender excelled, as he often does, flying around the box and in shallow coverage consistently around the ball and making plays as a strong tackler in space. But he also impressed even coach Dwain Jenkins and the Bulldogs staff with a leaping interception late in the third quarter that proved a pivotal play in helping maintain and ultimately extend a lead in a tight battle of a game.

Zach Jenkins — 5-10, 180 QB — Lutcher (2025)

The senior quarterback provided as much of an early spark for the Bulldogs' offense and entire team as anyone with his rushing threat: slippery through traffic for solid gains and a goal-line touchdown between the tackles, showing some speed bouncing to the outside and not shying away from running through tackles for additional yardage. And, when called upon, he threw a few nicely placed balls downfield giving his receivers opportunities for big plays through the air, including the Chaney touchdown strike.

[player_tooltip player_id='1603247' first='Jayden' last='Michael'] — 6-3, 300 OL — Lutcher (2026)

The Bulldogs boast a veteran offensive line among the strengths of the title-hopeful team, and — even amid several older teammates — Michael stands out physically with his big frame and strong base at left tackle. He showed some mobility as he worked to the outside to stay in front of edge rushers in pass protection or to occasionally get to the second level in the screen game, but was at his best when mauling his way forward to pave lanes for Jenkins and Chaney on the ground.

[player_tooltip player_id='723530' first='Ashton' last='Stark'] — 5-10, 160 WR/DB — Lutcher (2027)

The young athlete has shown himself a talented pass-catcher when given opportunities both on Friday nights and in off-season 7-on-7 and camp settings. But, particularly with the Bulldogs' slew of veteran receivers, he has embraced the opportunity to star in a role on the other side of the ball at safety where he flew around for at least one pass break-up over the middle and a few solid tackles in space near and behind the line of scrimmage.

D'Wayne Winfield — 6-0, 155 WR — Lutcher (2025)

Another of those aforementioned veteran pass-catchers along with Chaney, Winfield caught the first successful deep shot from Jenkins deep down the center of the field and through some contact. He also showed his all-around game and willingness to make winning plays with his kick coverage, including one particularly emphatic tackle in the fourth quarter, and his help blocking to the outside, including helping spring Chaney's late run.

[player_tooltip player_id='425028' first='Ty' last='Powell'] — 6-1, 180 K/P — E.D. White (2025)

The Marshall commit finished 2-for-2 on field goals, including a 45-yarder scooted over the cross bar, and 2-for-2 on extra-points and also played a big role in the field-position game. Powell sent many of his kickoffs into the end zone before later drilling and bouncing one off a returner and out of bounds inside the 10-yard line. He also hung his punts well enough to avoid the Bulldogs' potential to find any spark in the return game.

[player_tooltip player_id='1601793' first='Grant' last='Barbera'] — 6-1, 185 QB — E.D. White (2026)

The junior quarterback scored both of the Cardinals' touchdowns: goal-line runs early and late on which his worked through contact and showed some wherewithal and athleticism to stretch for the goal line while being tackled. He connected on, among a few other timely plays, a long pass deep down the center of the field to help set up the fourth-quarter run.

Charlie Diedrich — 6-1, 220 LB — E.D. White (2026)

Another player who stood out physically with his strong build and hard-hitting tackling in the box, Diedrich was consistently in the mix during the Cardinals' best defensive series and stopped plays in their tracks when able to get his hands on ball-carriers.

[player_tooltip player_id='1612643' first='Braelyn' last='Jennings'] — 5-6, 145 RB — E.D. White (2027)

The young back showed his agility and speed early as he took a well-timed pitch from Barbera on the Cardinals' first possession, sliced past one defender, hesitated to cut back around another and then dashed his way about 50 yards down toward the far goal line.
