<p>--. West Las Vegas quarterback <strong>C.J. Perea</strong> is close to surpassing the 7,000-yard career passing mark. He enters the Week 5 matchup against Santa Rosa with 6,939 passing yards in 37 games, an average of 187.5 yards per game. He has thrown 68 TD passes. The Dons are 2-2 and have three consecutive home games against Santa Rosa, Texico and cross-town rival Robertson over the next four weeks. Perea is No. 9 in the state in passing yards through Week 4. Here are the top 10 passers going into Week 5:</p>

<p>-- A week after Chaparral snaped its 40+ game losing streak with its first win in six years, Organ Mountain finally broke through and won its first game under second-year head coach Kenneth Sanchez with a convincing 49-16 victory over St. Pius. Overall, the much-needed win snapped an 18-game losing streak for the Knights dating back to September 2022. Senior QB <strong>Xavier Perez</strong> rushed for 214 yards and 1 TD and freshman RB <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1613370' first='Romeo' last='Jones']</strong> added 178 yards and 3 TD on 23 carries, while the Knight defense limited St. Pius X to 238 total yards, including just 42 on the ground. Organ Mountain rushed for a season high 403 yards. Were the players excited following the victory? Yes.</p>

<p>-- Led by dynamic QB <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='613746' first='Zaiden' last='Davis']</strong>, Centennial is mauling teams on the ground. Through 4 games, the Hawks have rushed for 1,550 yards on 163 carries, an eye-opening average of 9.5 yards per attempt. Davis (680 yards on 61 rushes) has numerous long TD runs. Senior RB <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='837060' first='Rudy' last='Rios']</strong> has 338 yards on 39 carries. Centennial has rushed for 347+ yards in each of the last three games, highlighted by the 577 yards rushing against Artesia. The Hawks are on pace to eclipse 3,800 rushing yards during the regular season. Going into Thursday's home game against Carlsbad, Davis is the state's 3<sup>rd</sup> leading rusher. Per MaxPreps, here are the Top 10 rushers in New Mexico entering Week 5:</p>

<p>-- Some of the numbers from Hobbs' wild 41-37 victory over El Paso (TX) Parkland are pretty wild. Parkland ran 96 plays on offense, an astounding number for a 48-minute high school game. The Matadors ran the ball 74 times for 347 yards while passing 22 times for 80 yards. Hobbs' LB trio <strong>of [player_tooltip player_id='1119266' first='Tristan' last='Davis']</strong>, <strong>Gustavo Diaz-Castro</strong> and <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1257310' first='Sammy' last='Baeza']</strong> each had 19+ tackles with Diaz-Castro finishing with a team high 24 tackles. Davis had 21 tackles. When was the last time a New Mexico team had TWO plyers with 20+ tackles? It doesn't happen often. Together, the Eagles trio combined for 64 tackles and 8 TFL. Junior LB <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1672368' first='Aidan' last='Gluhm']</strong> also had 19 tackles. Overall, Hobbs had 8 defenders with double digit tackles. Hobbs (2-2) hosts Las Cruces (2-2) Friday in the District 6A-3 opener for both teams. </p>

<p>-- West Mesa had rushed 660 yards in its first two games but the Mustangs were shut down by Volcano Vista in Week 4. West Mesa had just 18 yards rushing on 27 carries. Yes, that's less than 1 yards per carry. The Hawks had a season-high 57 tackles with 9.0 TFL, 3 sacks and 3 interceptions against West Mesa. Volcano Vista faces Eldorado Sat. at 11 a.m. at Wilson Stadium.</p>

<p>-- Portales LB <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='613053' first='Manny' last='Chavez']</strong> has been a tackling machine since he first started playing varsity football as a freshman in 2021. He collected 97 tackles as a freshman before making 137 and 151 tackles as a sophomore and junior, respectively. This season, he's averaging 16.0 tackles per game. He enters Week 5 with 64 tackles in 4 games, most in the state. For his career, Chavez has 449 tackles, which puts him 2<sup>nd</sup> on the NM all-time list. He has an excellent chance to become just the second defensive player ever to surpass 500 career tackles. </p>
