ALBUQUERQUE – La Cueva, ranked No. 1 in Class 6A by MaxPreps and the coaches, stayed unbeaten with a 43-15 victory over Farmington Friday night at Wilson Stadium.

After scoring the first two touchdowns on running back Cheeto Lumbrera's TD run and a pass from QB [player_tooltip player_id='611098' first='Cameron' last='Dyer'] for a 14-0 lead at the end of the first quarter, the Bears' offense hit a lull for a couple of possessions.

But they revved things back up over the latter half of the second quarter. Jaxson Smith's interception led to Dyer's 5-yard rushing TD and a 21-0 lead. La Cueva's next possession was stopped on downs inside the red zone but the Bears scored two more TDs in the final 3 minutes before halftime.

Those scores came on Dyer's 50-yard catch-and-run pass to the speedy [player_tooltip player_id='853013' first='Tanner' last='Montano'] (personal best of 10.77 seconds in the 100) and a 15-yard pass to WR [player_tooltip player_id='853556' first='Jayen' last='Barros'] on a well-executed crossing route that allowed Barros to cruise into the end zone with less than a minute left before halftime.

La Cueva led, 35-0, at halftime and quickly added another TD early in the third quarter on Dyer's third TD pass of the night to [player_tooltip player_id='1672514' first='Xavier' last='Valdez']. After that, with a running clock, the Bears pulled their starters and employed backups the rest of the way.

La Cueva's first-team defense essentially pitched a shutout during their time on the field. As always, LB [player_tooltip player_id='611083' first='Mason' last='Posa'] was active and wreaked havoc all over the field. Farmington didn't score until the final minute of the third quarter.

Dyer added to his great night by being crowned Homecoming King at halftime.

La Cueva (4-0, Week 3 bye) returns to district play in Week 6 against West Mesa at Community Stadium. The Bears should be favored to win every game the rest of the way, so if they take care of business they should enter the 6A playoff with a perfect record and the No. 1 seed.

VIDEO 1 (1st Possessions -
