After an outstanding Week Three showdown between Ravenwood (3-0) and Blackman (1-2) in Brentwood, it's time to break down some of the most impactful playmakers on both sides of the ball that made a difference this past Friday evening. Without any further ado, here's my list of top performers as well as my full game recap.

Earning my MVP award for Week Three is [player_tooltip player_id='402540' first='Femi' last='Babalola'], a quarterback at Ravenwood High School. What impressed me about Babalola was his unpredictable playstyle under center, proving he can complete the deep pass and blast into enemy territory on the ground. Babalola ran in the game-winning touchdown in the fourth quarter, breaking multiple tackles on his way to the house.

I was additionally impressed with [player_tooltip player_id='402559' first='Maverick' last='Chance'], a quarterback at Ravenwood High School. Chance was a crucial offensive weapon for the Raptors in the first half of play, utilizing his electric speed off the snap and outstanding durability in the pocket to punch in a touchdown from just a few yards out. I also liked how Chance could be useful in third-down scenarios with his explosive movement and ability to pick up the first-down.

Claiming the number three spot on my list is [player_tooltip player_id='1042282' first='John' last='Dragoo Jr'], a wide receiver at Blackman High School. What stood out the most about Dragoo was his breakaway speed and solid wingspan, proving he can get in front of the defense to attack the deep pass. Dragoo was a crucial playmaker for Blackman's offense in the first half, hauling in a deep touchdown pass to tie things up.

Another playmaker to catch my attention was [player_tooltip player_id='219450' first='Ethan' last='Carson'], a linebacker at Blackman High School. Carson made a considerable difference for the Blaze' defense, showcasing his ability to cause chaos for the offensive line and quickly apply pressure on the quarterback. I also liked how Carson could read the quick handoff and consistently shut down the ground game when it mattered most.

Coming in at number five on my list of top performers is [player_tooltip player_id='1207762' first='Trey' last='McGaffee'], a defensive back at Blackman High School. McGaffee caught my attention in the first half with his defensive explosiveness and ability to read the offense like a book. McGaffee hauled in an impressive interception, proving his ability to quickly adapt and elevate off the ground to attack the ball in the air.

Game Recap

Despite receiving the opening kick in the first half, Ravenwood would have trouble finding the endzone in the first quarter due to Blackman's strong defensive presence and ability to quickly apply pressure. The Raptors went for a fourth down conversion in the first quarter, which came up just short. In the opening minutes of the second quarter, Ravenwood's offense rallied to put their first points on the board as [player_tooltip player_id='402559' first='Maverick' last='Chance'] broke a few tackles on his way into the endzone. In the final minutes before the half, [player_tooltip player_id='1207762' first='Trey' last='McGaffee'] made a huge defensive play as he hauled in an interception to give Blackman possession of the football with a few minutes left before halftime. Blackman's offense managed to tie things up 7-7 as [player_tooltip player_id='1042282' first='John' last='Dragoo Jr'] hauled in an impressive long pass in the endzone. Ravenwood and Blackman would be evenly matched defensively in the second half as neither team found it easy to find the endzone. Ravenwood's defense would make a huge impact in the third quarter as Austin Napier picked off the Blaze for a gain of 20 yards. Despite solid field position, Blackman's defense showcased their explosiveness, stopping the Raptors from punching in the touchdown. After settling for a field goal, Blackman would block the kick as things were still tied up at 7-7 with 3:31 left in the third quarter. It wasn't until the fourth quarter that the tie was broken as [player_tooltip player_id='402540' first='Femi' last='Babalola'] broke several tackles and blasted into the endzone for the touchdown. After a great defensive stop, Ravenwood's offense would go onto drain the clock and utilize the run game to keep possession until time expired. Ravenwood won 14-7.
