Last Season (9-1)

Last season, Victor won their first nine games until a loss against Brighton in the Sectional Semi-Finals ended their season. A team they had beaten in the regular season, Victor could not get anything going against the Brighton defense and could never get back in the game. During the regular season, Victor had three 1-point victories, but their defense was stout, never allowing over 22 points until their loss against Brighton. It was a season that most NY teams would kill to have, but for Victor, falling short after a strong regular season will leave them some room to grow heading into this season.

Yeomas is one of the best athletes in Section V. As a college prospect, based on his Junior film, he looks like a quality D3 prospect. He will take on additional duties at MLB this season, a move from the defensive end.
A RB/WR/DB prospect for Victor Young III was one of the best athletes for Victor last season, probably the fastest guy on the team you see on film. His best position at the next level is likely at CB where his ability to track the ball and ball skills at the catch point stand out on film. As a sophomore, he needs to continue to add weight and strength as a prospect, but his athleticism stands out on tape.

Battaglia is Victor's top returning lineman at 6'2 "295. He plays the tackle position but would probably bump inside to guard at the next level. Battaglia plays with a solid pad level; he consistently keeps his hands inside and has a solid initial punch. He does his best work when he can move to the second level, where he moves well, getting to linebackers and, at times, safeties.

Tucker is a little undersized for the defensive tackle position in college, which is why he may be more of a defensive end prospect. However, Tucker excels at shooting gaps against zone runs and winning reps with his upfield burst. He plays with a great motor and shows good pad level at the point of attack. He gets by blocks often with quickness and a solid rip move. Likely a Division Three prospect due to his size, Tucker is a really quality performer for Victor and a very impactful defensive tackle both against the run and as a pass rusher.

Torres is an intriguing young QB prospect who got some time last year but will come into the season with limited experience. Not many sophomores start at the QB position in Section V, so there may be some bumps in the road early, but he has solid measurables at 6'1 190 - and shows good athleticism and a developing arm. Torres will have a strong running game to support him, but he could become the focal point of the Victor offense this season.

2024 Outlook

HC: Geoff Mandile

A very intriguing matchup with Section III Cicero-North Syracuse at the JMA Wireless Dome will be a nice introduction to the season. Both teams return some quality talent but have to replace their quarterbacks and top WRs from last season. Into the Section V schedule, Victor will play the four toughest games, which look to be the last four of the season, ending with Brighton, the team that ended its season last year.

3 Things Going For The Blue Devils

There is young talent at premium positions with varsity experience to help ease the loss of their best offensive and defensive player

They don't lose too much size on the offensive line and bring some young OLs with good measurables to varsity

They return one of the top two-way players in Section V in [player_tooltip player_id='1283860' first='Derevariis' last='Yeomas']

1 Area To Be Concerns

The loss of Adam Ruffalo's 1,000+ All-Purpose yards will be extremely difficult to replace

The Last Word

Victor replaces some excellent players, and with the production they lose on both sides of the ball, this would be almost a reset year for most teams. However, Victor has a lot of young talent, and I think they have a chance to make some noise behind [player_tooltip player_id='1328878' first='Eric' last='Torres'] as a quarterback. At the same time, [player_tooltip player_id='1283860' first='Derevariis' last='Yeomas'] may be primarily a solid DIII prospect. Still, he can easily compete for POTY awards in Section V. I don't expect Victor to take a step back from last year's Sectional Semi-final appearance. Still, I also think that a couple of their young prospects will have to outperform their expectations to get to the state tournament.
