Southside's early three-touchdown lead had dwindled to one midway through the third quarter as visiting Madison Prep began to seize momentum with big plays in the passing game.

But, on a pivotal fourth down, the Sharks' offensive line parted the seas to a wide-open running lane to the end zone, and the defense snatched an interception downfield a few plays later and shut down the Chargers the rest of the way for a 27-14 victory.

The win, headlined by an explosive rushing attack and disruptive defense, marked the first under new coach Jess Curtis.

Here's a look at more than a dozen eye-catchers who stood out for both teams.

Ramon Singleton — 6-2, 215 RB — Southside (2025)

The Sharks' senior running back helped start the offense on the right foot with a pair of long touchdown runs of 69 and 73 yards in the first quarter on his way to more than 200 yards for the game. Singleton is a big, physical back who runs decisively and strong between the tackles, but wasted little time flashing his listed 4.6-second 40-yard speed in the open field.

The long, lean edge rusher helped spearhead the Sharks' disruptive pass-rush as he got to the quarterback early and often and brought notable pressure on other plays to help throw off the Chargers' offense. Whether his quick initial burst or his ability to beat and shed blockers with his hands on his way to the backfield, Hypolite was a consistent menace.

The top coverage highlight came from the Sharks' other Collins as the junior corner saw a throw downfield coming in short, stopped, positioned himself in front of the intended receiver and snatched an interception that ultimately proved a pivotal play in shutting down the Chargers' third-quarter momentum.

Whether Singleton or sophomore Justin Williams' heavy-lifting or touchdowns from junior Ashton Labit and Kollen Francois, much of the Sharks' biggest success moving the football came to the left side of the line where the tackle Dutil and guard Mouton paved running lanes all night, including a wide-open parting of the seas on a fourth-and-goal in the third quarter to spring Francois to stroll in for a pivotal score. The unit — including senior tight end Kade Fontenot, junior center Luke McAnally, senior guard Keith Lopez and senior tackle Presley Battley — controlled the trenches much of the night.

The night was long in a lot of ways for the Chargers' senior quarterback, who had was under pressure from the beginning, took several hits and had some catchable early throws fall incomplete. But [player_tooltip player_id='291086' first='Tylan' last='Johnson'] also put some impressive early throws downfield. And, when his younger brother went up and caught one over a defender early in the second quarter, a switch seemed to flip for the offense as the receiving corps as a whole began to make more plays and help provide Madison Prep some life.

Landon, nicknamed "Manu," flashed a combination of his vertical athleticism, ball skills and speed on the aforementioned highlight-reel catch on which he went up over a defender, high-pointed the ball and then quickly took off for some yards after the catch. He also showed some of those traits on a defensive highlight on which he worked at corner and cleanly jumped over a receiver to deflect away a throw toward the end zone on one of the Sharks' rare pass attempts.

The junior receiver managed his own impressive highlight downfield in the third quarter, going over a defender to snatch a pass away with strong hands through contact, pushing the defender away and then taking off for the long score. Robinson ended up proving as consistent a weapon for the Chargers offense as any with catches at every level and good burst for additional yardage.

During the stretches on which the Chargers managed to slow the Sharks' rushing attack, the big defensive tackle was in the thick of the action, getting off blocks and making strong, sure tackles at and behind the line of scrimmage for some of his team's top highlights on that side of the ball.

The junior linebacker duo — Variste primarily inside, and Holmes on the edge — were among other Madison Prep defenders to stand out with the former shedding blockers and racking up 13 tackles and the latter standing out with his tall, long frame and some highlight stops in space.
