What looked like it would shape up as a battle of the running backs didn't happen. While Chaminade's bruising senior RB [player_tooltip player_id='1058929' first='Madden' last='Irving'] (5'9" 205) showed up with his usual workhorse type performance of 29 carries for over 200 yards and two touchdowns, St. Mary's rising sophomore talent Kingston Miles (5'11' 200) missed the game with an ankle injury that kept him on he sidelines. Miles had rushed for over 500 yards and 6 touchdowns through his first four games.

The Chaminade defense really stepped up and was clutch in the second half to help win the game by shutting out the Dragons in the 3rd and 4th quarters. The really flew to the ball and made plays, especially late in the game when St. Mary's had a chance still.

Chaminade Junior WR/CB [player_tooltip player_id='849713' first='Dekarai' last='Weaver'] (5'11" 165) is a big time player who really shined on Friday night. Weaver made big plays on both sides of the ball recording 12 total tackles and a pick at his defensive back position, and also had 64 yards receiving on 3 catches, including a 38 yard touchdown catch. He also returns kicks.

The Dragons sophomore QB [player_tooltip player_id='1324185' first='J'Mareon' last='Barnes'] (6'0" 180) is one of the top young quarterbacks to watch for in the St. Louis area. Barnes is an athletic dual threat who can really spin it. He showed good poise and made some nice plays on the night. He was impressive in my first time watching him in action.

2026 S [player_tooltip player_id='691332' first='Christian' last='Funches'] is back. The talented safety missed all of the 2023 season due to injury but looked like he hasn't missed a beat with his 8 tackle performance and ability to run and make plays all game long both against the run and pass. Funches has 27 tackles, which is among the leaders through the first five games for the Red Devils.
