As we approach the end of the month of September, we are now at the halfway point in the 2024 high school football season in the state of Kentucky. While there have been a lot of standout performers so far this season, some have stood out above the rest. With that being said, I wanted to take some time to recognize my midseason Player of the Year watchlists. After already covering the offensive and defensive sides of the ball, here is my midseason Two-Way Player of the Year watchlist.

[player_tooltip player_id='373790' first='Montavin' last='Quisenberry'] has continued to prove that he is one of the best overall players in the state. He is a dynamic offensive weapon who Boyle County loves to get the ball in his hands and let him do the rest. Quisenberry has the speed and elusiveness to break away for a big play at any given moment. Through five games, Quisenberry is his team's leading receiver with 19 receptions for 366 yards and four touchdowns. He has also carried the ball 38 times for 325 yards and six touchdowns, thrown one passing touchdown, and returned one punt for a touchdown so far this season. Montavin has also made an impact on defense in the first five weeks, accounting for 18 tackles and a team-leading two interceptions. Quisenberry is committed to West Virginia where I can see him making a huge impact once he gets there.

[player_tooltip player_id='919065' first='Jeremiah' last='Jones'] is another high-caliber prospect who has dominated on both sides of the ball this season. On defense, Jones plays in a linebacker/strong safety role where he is very impressive against the run. He does a great job of reading the play quickly then coming downhill in a hurry to make the tackle in the open field. Jones is currently Murray's leading tackler with 49 tackles and five tackles for loss through five games. He also has three sacks and one interception so fat this season. Jones is also a dynamic receiver on offense who uses his speed to pose as a dangerous deep threat. He is his team's leading receiver with 29 carries for 499 yards and five touchdowns. Jones has also ran the ball six times for 43 yards and a touchdown. Jeremiah is committed to Nebraska where I can see him finding a key role once he gets there.

[player_tooltip player_id='971497' first='Isaiah' last='Martin'] is another two-way player from Murray who has stood out this season. On offense, Martin is a very impressive receiver. He does a great job of using his speed and route running ability to create separation with ease. Martin is also dangerous after the catch, using his speed and elusiveness in the open field to turn short passes into big plays. Through the first five games, Martin has caught 29 passes for 449 yards and seven touchdowns. He has also carried the ball six times for 63 yards and a touchdown. Isaiah also makes a big impact on defense in the secondary, accounting for 36 tackles, one tackle for loss, half a sack, and a team-high four interceptions (one returned for a touchdown) so far this season. Martin currently holds an offer from Eastern Kentucky and I expect more to come his way as he is a Division I caliber prospect.

[player_tooltip player_id='735549' first='Trey' last='Cotton'] is a player who has been high on my radar for a while now and has continued to stand out so far this season. Cotton is a very impressive receiver on the offensive side of the ball. He is able to use his speed to his advantage to blow by opposing defensive backs in the deep passing game and to pick up extra yards after the catch. Cotton currently leads CAL with 32 receptions for 602 yards and eight touchdowns through five games. Trey also plays a key role on defense at safety, accounting for 24 tackles, seven tackles for loss, one sack, and an interception so far. Cotton currently holds offers from UT Martin, Eastern Kentucky, Southeast Missouri State, Austin Peay, Eastern Illinois, and Lindenwood, and I expect more to come his way as he has the talent to play at a Division I program.

Another CAL senior who has stood out so far this season is [player_tooltip player_id='735551' first='Connor' last='Hodge']. Hodge made the transition from wide receiver to quarterback this season and he has thrived in his new role, completing 109/158 passes for 1,364 yards, 13 touchdowns, and five interceptions in five games. While he has been impressive as a passer, he has also made a big impact in the run game, using his speed and elusiveness to break away for big plays. He leads his team in rushing with 63 carries for 371 yards and six touchdowns. Hodge has also continued to make an impact on defense, accounting for 13 tackles, two tackles for loss, and a team-leading two interceptions so far. Connor currently holds offers from East Carolina, UT Martin, Ball State, Eastern Kentucky, Southeast Missouri State, Central Michigan, and Georgia Southern; and I expect more to come his way as he has the talent to play multiple positions at the Division I level.

The final player on my midseason Two-Way Player of the Year watchlist is [player_tooltip player_id='735553' first='Brenan' last='Griffin']. Griffin has been the true leader of the Hart County defense this season at linebacker. He is dominant against the run, showing the ability to read his keys and come downhill in a hurry to make the tackle before the ball carrier can get going. Through the first five weeks, Brenan is the statewide leader in tackles with 77 tackles along with 5.5 tackles for loss. He also has recorded one sack and leads his team with two interceptions. Griffin also plays a key role on offense as a running back, carrying the ball 35 times for 460 yards and six touchdowns so far. He has also caught three passes for 53 yards. Brenan doesn't currently hold any offers but I can see some coming his way soon as he has received some college interest and has the talent to play somewhere at the next level.
