Setting The Tone

In Elba's 50-22 win over Luverne, he showed why recruiters love the way he plays the game. The Georgia State commit is projected as a dynamic linebacker at the next level. He proved his defensive prowess with 10 tackles, 5 of those solo, 3 sacks and 2 forced fumbles. He also threw in a safety for extra measure. Offensively, the quarterback rushed for 123 yards on 8 carries with 2 touchdowns and passed for another score. Hughley has the ability to stop on a dime and make cat-like cuts that leave defenders grasping at air. He also features great acceleration once he sees an opening and excellent top-end speed. Hughley was key in Opelika's 28-14 win over the Wildcats Friday night. In the week one win over Pleasant Grove, the sophomore was nearly impossible to cover. He runs crisp routes underneath soft coverage. Feagin also has the quick feet to shake a defender in press coverage and beat him for a big gain. He has impressive hands and is electric after the catch. He finished the night with 9 catches for 153 yards and a touchdown. Showing great explosion off of the snap, Copes consistently blew past blocks and met the ball in the backfield. He was relentless in the win over Pleasant Grove posting 12 total tackles. That number is more impressive when you find out that 8 of those stops were for a loss, including 4 sacks. However, they did get a breakout performance from quarterback Hunter Hensley. The senior showed great touch on the deep pass and impressive accuracy. Hensley also showed the ability to pull the ball and run in the Warriors RPO offense. On the night, Hensley amassed more than 200 yards and 3 touchdowns. The senior has extreme quickness that allows him to elude the rush and turn negative plays into positive gains. One thing that stands out is Russell's quick decisions and vision. He made several great throws with defenders in his face in Carver's win over Vestavia Hills.
