PRZVA Team Preview: Hayfield Hawks

For those living under a rock Coach Overton ran the show the past two season at Freedom (Woodbrige) High School. Winning back to back Class 6 state championships, Overton's Freedom teams won most of their contests in blowout fashion. For the past decade Hayfield has been good but has not advanced past the Region semi-finals. The last couple of years their season has been ended by arch rival West Springfield, which they conveniently open with this fall. We have broken down his play here many times before and his stock skyrocketed after his performance at our Spring showcase. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Even before Coach Overton took over FBS schools were after him furiously, I can see why he committed to the Navy when he did so he would limit the distractions. My co-worker Cole Laing came away very impressed after his showcase performance:</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><em>Ian has been no stranger to us at Prep Redzone, but this was the first time I was able to see him live, and he did not disappoint. He is a dominant EDGE defender who is quick with his initial steps. He faced our top Offensive Tackles several times and was able to create pressure on every rep I saw. This weekend proved that he should be on the radars of college coaches. Just like teammate Hall, Kamarck's name is making the rounds with several colleges offering him in the last week. One of the smartest football players on the field, he has obtained offers from MIT and the University of Chicago just in the past two weeks. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>He has a ridiculous 4.51 GPA and 1550 SATS imagine this young man playing in the Patriot League? When he extends his arms and drives his opponent backward, expect to see him finish the pancake. Chiles is a good center with a nice frame and size that should start to attract division 2 level coaches soon. The kid is dangerous and physical with the football in his hands never avoiding contact. He does a great job on his routes of never showing his hands to the defender until the last second. He gets good separation from the defender almost immediately after the snap and has a long lengthy stride. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Trotter will most likely be called upon come basketball season too for Hayfield as he was a star forward for South County. Coach Overton was left with a number of college bound prospects and he has yet to really sink his teeth in his new surroundings, should be fun to see his high powered offense come fall. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
