For the Halstead Dragons, last year started promising with a big win over Smoky Valley 47-8 in the opening game of the 2023 season. They would go on to begin the year at 3-3 before running into the buzz saw portion of the schedule, where they lost to Ellsworth 21-0, and then to eventual state champ Cheney 39-12.

In the first round of the playoffs they fell to powerful Garden Plain 21-7.

The three-loss finish to the end of the 2023 season was painful and for the returning Dragon players, it was an opportunity to step up in the off-season, get focused, work hard and flip the script in 2024.

Rising-star head coach Derek Racette has his program primed for a big season as they return nine starters on offense and eight on defense to go along with a number of players who saw varsity time a year ago. With a talented senior class leading the way, Halstead appears ready roll in 2024.

In this report we will take an in-depth look at the program and project how the 2024 season is shaping up. So, without further adieu, I bring you the Halstead Dragons:

2024 Outlook – After last year's disappointing finish, the team worked hard in the off-season to change all that in 2024.
