Each week we will talk on the state's top offensive and defensive performers. Week zero is a little different with only a handful of teams playing actual games. Regardless check out who played well to start the season.

[player_tooltip player_id='754594' first='Jack' last='Foley'] 25' WR Mountain View

One of the state's top overall recruits came back in a big way from his back injury catching 6 passes for 100+ yards and 4 TDs, in the 55-20 win over Springfield. The #2 5A Cougars will be tough to beat.

[player_tooltip player_id='402416' first='Lamarcus' last='Bell'] 26' RB Lake Oswego

Bell showed why he is potentially Oregon's top overall player rushing 15 times for 174 yards and 3 TDs, in their 33-7 win over South Medford. The junior RB is just getting started.

[player_tooltip player_id='285872' first='Truman' last='Brasfield'] 25' WR Crescent Valley

The Corvallis transfer had a phenomenal season opener for his new team, catching 9 passes for 174 yards and 3 TDs in their 44-23 win over North Eugene.

[player_tooltip player_id='855093' first='Summit' last='Cvitash'] 26' DB / [player_tooltip player_id='937103' first='Cole' last='Callahan'] 26' DB Lake Oswego

Even with LO being loaded on both sides of the football, two sophomores stood out in the secondary with Cvitash and Callahan both getting INT's. Lake O's underclassmen are legit.

[player_tooltip player_id='402409' first='Hudson' last='Kurland'] 26' QB/ [player_tooltip player_id='285866' first='Liam' last='Davis'] 25' ATH/WR Lake Oswego

The 6-4 200-pound Sunset transfer Kurland managed the game nicely, hitting on 7/8 passes for 148 yards. This included a 41-yard TD to talented athlete [player_tooltip player_id='285866' first='Liam' last='Davis'] who played QB last year.

[player_tooltip player_id='402406' first='Donnie' last='Vercher III'] 26' LB Central Catholic

You will hear a lot about this kid as the year gets started. DV3 was the leader of the Rams D, finishing with 5 tackles, 2 tfl's, 1 sack, and 1 forced fumble in the 35-15 win over Hawaii. The junior will need to step up against a good Central Catholic, California program next week.

[player_tooltip player_id='914302' first='Robbie' last='Long'] 26' QB Central Catholic

Give credit to Long who showed up and looked great in CC's opener, hitting on 17/24 passes for 213 yards and 3 TDs. To say that 3x POY Cru Newman left some big shoes to fill would be a massive understatement. The Junior QB played well.

[player_tooltip player_id='904208' first='Zeke' last='Thomas'] 28' QB Crescent Valley

One of the top NW's top freshman. Thomas was 19/29 passing for 313 yards and 4 TDs in his first varsity game. Look for him to be ranked towards the top of the charts for his class.

[player_tooltip player_id='1216435' first='Brody' last='Kuenzi'] 25' TE Silverton/ [player_tooltip player_id='511861' first='Sawyer' last='Teeney'] 25' QB Silverton

[player_tooltip player_id='511861' first='Sawyer' last='Teeney'] will be one of the favorites for Oregon 5A POY honors, showing why in the opener. He passed for over 300 yards and also rushed for 2 TDs, while hitting top TE [player_tooltip player_id='1216435' first='Brody' last='Kuenzi'] 7 times for 102 yards.

[player_tooltip player_id='1328770' first='Dukatti' last='Witherspoon'] 25' QB Sprague

Not a lot of people are aware of Witherspoon but he just continues to impress. The 6-4 QB passed for 4 TDs and rushed for another, in the Oly's 42-27 win over a decent Newberg team.

[player_tooltip player_id='904426' first='Aaron' last='Bidwell'] 25' WR Marist/ [player_tooltip player_id='1322050' first='Nick' last='Hudson'] 25' QB Marist

Two kids you will likely hear about often this season are Bidwell and Hudson. Playing 4A ball isn't exactly glamorous but the Spartans stepped up beating 5A Churchill 33-30. Hudson's 15-yard TD pass as the clock expired to Bidwell sealed the deal.
