Week 1 is in the books and today we're checking out just a few elite offensive performances from around the state. We'll hit more this week, but today here are 5 guys who did exactly what they needed to on Friday.

Not many players had as rough a Junior season as the Roncalli Quarterback, but I'm so glad he's back on the field and healthy. He missed all of last year with an injury and it was killer. He came back this week and was dominant. Only playing in the first half, Buchanan went 12 for 13 for 244 yards and 4 TDs. He came out on fire, throwing with anticipation, and getting the ball out on time. Buchanan's very talented and I'm excited to see him healthy and playing to his full potential.

It's the first full season for Kirby under Center and what we saw on Friday was more than promising. He was quick with his decision-making and could put the ball right where he wanted it. While he only threw for 1 TD on Friday, I was so impressed with his poise in the pocket and deep ball. He hit his receivers in stride multiple times deep downfield and they never slowed up a bit. He's then athletic enough to run, take off, and do damage with his legs. I was impressed with Kirby and am excited to see what he does through the rest of the year.

Hidden down in the southern part of the state is a dynamic back who had a great year last year and is off to another big start this year. Powell is well-built, dynamic, and has great vision. He's a patient runner who lets his blocks develop before he hits the hole. He had just under 1000 yards and 9 TDs last season as well. This past Friday, he helped the Dragons run away from Charlestown. With 2 2nd half TDs and over 100 yards, he was a big reason they got the win and should be a big part of the offense this fall.

2 of the state's best programs clashed in week 1 and while it was a 1-sided game, Bonds was a big reason why and went off. Both Ben Davis and Cathedral trotted out new Quarterbacks, so to have Bonds come out and take some stress off Koers arm was huge. Bonds was making the right cut all night, has elite speed, and can handle a big workload. He carried the ball over 25 times and put up 162 rushing yards and a TD. You have to be excited to see him come out and play this well to start the season.

The development for Aspeslet has been steady and it seems as though everything might be coming together for the young stud. He's got a big arm, sees the whole field, and can make all the throws. He's got a big body that can withstand blows in the pocket and doesn't flinch when taking a hit. Friday night against Lawrence Central he completed 68% of his throws for 211 yards and 3 TDs as they cruised to their first win of the year. Aspeslet is the key for North and if he continues to play like this, they could be a problem.
