We are less than a couple weeks away from football practice officially starting and for the class of 2027 it is a critical transition year. If you want to get your name in front of the top schools, you need to go off in your sophomore season.

Make that happen, and it can be a springboard season to get noticed by the elite schools and scouts.

For many, however, it is more about just getting on the field as a sophomore. Many of the larger schools have rosters so deep they rarely have to dip into the underclassmen.

Either way, at this stage in the upcoming season thoughts of future games have been pushed aside for the moment as these young warriors focus on the task at hand - blowing things up in practice so they can earn the opportunity to do it every Friday night.

In this report, we will focus on a young gun from Cheney getting ready to terrorize the trenches and then take a look at what four skill players have been doing preparing this summer.

So, without further adieu, I bring you the "Mid-Week Five" - 2027 guys getting ready to make some noise this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='936547' first='Malachi' last='Brunk'] , 6'0, 165, ATH, Inman, is ranked #57. He is another young gun quarterback out of the class of 2027 who is getting ready for some fireworks this fall. He is coming off a solid freshman season where he picked up playing time as a QB and as a defensive back. On offense, in the last six games, he threw for just over 700 yards, ran for another 150 and piled up ten touchdowns. On defense he is a smothering defensive back who was in on 31 tackles and picked off a pass. This summer he has been working his craft, throwing a ton of passes and working closely with Kegan Schumann of Revive Performance, @SchumannKegan, on his speedwork. The results have been impressive as his 40 is down to 4.6, with a 4.1 pro shuttle. This kid is off to a great start and is getting ready to really take off this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='933826' first='Cooper' last='Ohnmacht'] , 6'0”,155, ATH, Great Bend, is currently ranked #58. I recently wrote about what a great start this kid is off to and hasn't really even added football to the list of sports he dominates in just yet. In the off season he kept his name in the headlines by winning the state championship in the triple jump as a freshman, leaping 47+ feet. He is also the school record holder in the vertical, with a jump just under 40″. On the football field he got his foot in the door last year with nine catches for 119 yards, but will blow that out of the water this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='1113284' first='Ayden' last='Koehn'] , 6'2, 205, OLB/DL, Cheney, is currently ranked #88 and will be climbing quickly. Another standout Cheney player in the making who is coming off an excellent season a year ago as a part of the undefeated Cheney state championship team. He has been busy on the camp-clinic circuit traveling to a couple of camps at Kansas State and then hit the Butler camp as well. Besides crushing his PR's in all the major lifts, he has been hard at speed work and agilities. After the morning weights he goes through speed training with Coach Daniels, @RashadDaniels12, for a wide range of speed, strength and agilities training in the evenings. He is also working his trench game hard with legendary Coach Tabor with @PIAthletes. This kid is getting ready to take his game to the next level this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='1307966' first='Kai' last='Kirchhoff-Jones'] , 5'10, 175, RB/LB, Rose Hill is currently #130. I reported on him earlier in the year as a versatile, multi-positional rising star who shows potential as a running back on offense and as a defensive-back on defense. He has been hard at it working almost daily in the Rose Hill off-season program and has packed on muscle without losing any of his speed and acceleration. He hit a number of camps over the summer, including the Kansas State University Mega Camp where he clocked in the high 4.5's. He is preparing to play any number of positions and has been working agilities and speedwork in particular. He has also spent plenty of time catching and defensing passes with his teammates, working on quick hip turn, electric feet and change of direction movements. This kid is getting ready to shine this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='1354313' first='Davon' last='Morrison'], 5'10, 165, ATH, Derby is currently unranked. . Another rising star out of the Panther program who has been turning heads with his speed. This summer he has been working at making a position transition from being a life-long running back to wide receiver. Going forward, he will be lining up as a speedy wideout, and has already been spending time running routes with Derby's trio of rising-star QB's, [player_tooltip player_id='354613' first='Drew' last='Kemp'], @drewKemp_7 ('25); [player_tooltip player_id='352451' first='Aiden' last='Heckathorn'], @AidenHeckathorn ('25); and [player_tooltip player_id='1367364' first='Krystian' last='Dorsey'] ('26) @Krys_g4L. He has been working hard in the Derby off-season training program, making serious gains in all the major lifts and getting stronger without sacrificing any speed, as he consistently timed in the low 4.5's. He was also a highlight in the Derby 7v7 sessions this summer. He is getting ready burn it up this fall.

In conclusion, get these guys on you watchlist and get out and see them perform when you can. You will not be disappointed. And, as always, if you know of any players "flying under the radar" feel free to reach out to CoolDaddyO via DM on X.
