Offsides, roughing the punter, delay of game, false start etc are unfortunately too familiar this time of year. Especially when the teammates surrounding you aren't that familiar. Well Kentucky had their work cut out for them, not due to lack of talent and coaching, but trying to find that rhythm eluded them most of the game when playing from behind became to much of a mountain to climb. Below are evaluations on the running back position versus Tennessee.

Pro style RB [player_tooltip player_id='1084814' first='Matthew' last='Rogers'] had a solid day with 10 carries for 64 yards. First carry was a nice power play with an explosive gain of 6 yards. He didn't see any negative yardage on the field until his sixth carry including a failed extra point earlier in the game. Add a 8 yard catch where he slipped immediately into the flat ripping through a tackler on the sideline. Right before the half Rogers punched in a determined 6 yard TD run to keep Kentucky on their toes. Didn't see much usage in the second half but from covering this young man over the past year, he did his job and kept his QB upright being an affective blocker and receiving option. His high school career will be full of opportunities!

Reed was the second best runner in the backfield. Finishing with 8 touches and 28 total yards. 2 of which came on a touchdown plunge after getting his team right outside the endzone on the previous play. Reed is a tempo back with all the goods to key in on. I was happy to see him and Rogers share the backfield and complimented each other game really well.

Jaden Steele

Steele got touches sporadically and put together back to back 7 yards runs to keep my attention. Lean build and average pass protector, however, definitely has the goods with the ball in his hands when called on. Looked natural as a slash player and runs with a nice forward lean. On Friday nights you cannot be afraid of contact, and Jaden is not.

Brycn Mitchell

Mitchell received a couple of touches late in the game, that left me wondering where this kid has been all game. I understand the stress of getting everyone involved when there is only one football, and Brycn made the best of it. He had a carry of 2 yards, then a 4 yard push totaling 6 on the day, but left much to be desired with his build and power. It will be interesting to see what side of the ball he really focuses on in high school. Either way there is a lot of potential and growth that can lead to a big talent.
