Last Years Result: 9-3 (Lost in Class 6 Region C Semifinals to Fairfax)

A proud tradition and a promising championship awaits the South County Stallions. The state semifinalists battled injuries late last year and are back with hopes for more. Since winning the Virginia Class 6 crown in 2019 the Stallions have been among the states best and have made the postseason with the expectations the same in 2024. Returning tremendous talent on offense and defense, Head Coach Gerry Pannoni will need to implement key starters at several important positions. Coach's track record speaks for itself and some of the newcomers stepping already seem up to the challenge.

The ODU bound superstar [player_tooltip player_id='1228846' first='Hunter' last='Malecki'] leads the way on what could be one of the best defensive lines in the state. Malecki as many of you may already be aware had over 20 Division 1 offers after his ridiculous junior season where he had 15 sacks. He is 6'4 250 lbs. and is one of the most athletic kids on the field at all times.

Playing Tight end also, Malecki should factor into the Stallions offensive game plan more as a senior. He has good hands and can run, imagine trying to tackle this dude in the open field?

All state receiver [player_tooltip player_id='1231573' first='Tyler' last='Orth'] is back after a monster junior season that saw him eclipse the 1,000 yard mark. Like Malecki we have been high on Orth here for a bit and he is attracting major FCS level interest, which he quite frankly has earned.

Orth is a speedster and he is perfect to have for new starting quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1106154' first='Henry' last='Miska'] to get comfortable in the offense. Well aware of the route tree [player_tooltip player_id='1231573' first='Tyler' last='Orth'] is a great security blanket for any quarterback, with a good senior campaign this young man should be FCS bound.

While the Stallions are replacing a few offensive lineman from 2023, a major stock riser in 2024 [player_tooltip player_id='1230259' first='Jordan' last='Muhanyi'] is back to anchor this young group. It has to be mentioned South County will be relying on the all-district Muhanyi to lead the an oline inputting three new starters. The Stallions will be relying on him early on as his teammates get comfortable and honestly who better to follow than a dude who did not allow a sack last fall.

One of the more underrated prospects in the district 3 tech Trent "Bam Bam" Brooks will be looking for more recognition this fall. This will be his third year as a starter along this loaded defensive line and it is time for Bam Bam to take over. He has pure raw strength and has been working on his craft all off-season, all this work should lead to several division 2 offers.

I broke down Brooks back in March below:

An athletic defensive tackle for the Stallions is what I see watching Trent “Bam Bam” Brooks knife through the opposing offensive line. Brooks is not only a pain in rear to block along the Stallions ridiculously talented defensive line, he is fast and athletic enough to contribute on special teams too. This young man is too fast for most interior lineman to block him one on one and its not like you can double team him with all the talent up front that South County displays. He has solid size at 6'1 and 255 lbs., his speed alone will attract colleges very soon. A 3.0 GPA will also help as I expect the interest in Bam Bam to grow as we head into spring.

A rising junior who 31 receptions as a junior should be in for a bigger role in 2024 for the the Stallions offense. [player_tooltip player_id='1297724' first='Trevion' last='Campbell'] also has top notch speed and figures to settle in nicely opposite of [player_tooltip player_id='1231573' first='Tyler' last='Orth'] for a scary 1-2 punch combo at receiver. I have a feeling Campbell is in for a monster junior season the way he has been progressing this off-season. A good route runner with solid hands, he clearly seems to on the same page with Miska already.

Replacing one of the best quarterbacks in recent memory is no small task, but junior [player_tooltip player_id='1106154' first='Henry' last='Miska'] may be worth the wait! One of the top ranked quarterbacks for his class, you should know that we think highly of this young man already and that is without significant varsity experience (yet).

Miska is set to take over for Jordan Dennis and while he has big shoes to fill, the hype for this dude is well underway. The young man has a cannon for an arm and you should expect to see the Stallions offense adjust to his strengths accordingly.

New starter at outside linebacker [player_tooltip player_id='1232678' first='Khamani' last='Matthews'] has major upside and should have plenty of opportunites to get notice along this stout defense. A rising senior Matthews has good size at 6'1 170 lbs. he could be one of the team leaders in tackles this fall.

Playing behind a couple of division 1 lineman Matthews will show you how fast he can get to the ball carrier. Being light on his feet makes him very difficult for lineman to reach him on their blocks, he is due for a big senior year.

Head Coach thoughts on the off-season:

“High expectations on offense with a young athletic quarterback and very experienced/talented receiver room. Should have a top notch defense with a defensive line group that rivals 2019 State championship squad. ”“ Head Coach Gerry Pannoni

Season Outlook:

While South County did graduate an impressive senior class, make no mistake it is championship or bust over their in Lorton, Virginia. The Stallions have the makings of perhaps the best defense in the region and lots of potential on offense. The key will be how Miska holds up playing behind an offensive line breaking in three new starters, their week 2 rematch against Quince Orchard should be must see. Playing in a loaded Patriot District, the Stallions tilts against potential state title contenders West Springfield and Lake Braddock await. Coach Pannoni's squad will never back away from a challenge you best believe South County is ready. How they navigate until their monster matchup in November against Lake Braddock will likely determine the Patriot District winner. Not only that it will also determine the seeding in the new Region C playoffs which are very important.
