PRZVA Team Preview: Hylton Bulldogs

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Last Years Result- 3-7 </strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Hylton Bulldogs 2023 season started rather well going 3-1 and ended a 14 game losing streak in the process. Unfortunately they dropped their final seven contests and have moved to a new Head Coach in Jared Van Acker. Formerly coaching at Woodson Van Acker comes highly regarded and he has hit the ground running trying to rebuild Hylton. Marshall will be called upon often for Hylton, he is dynamic running back who will be a major focal point of the offense. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Bulldogs do not have a ton of returning starters offensively expect Marshall to be among the league leaders in total yards. He will catch passes, take off on 50 yard gash plays and pick up big first downs. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Defensively is where I see him playing at the next level, the way he breaks on the football is on point. Starting at defensive back last year, Pride had 5 interceptions through his first four high school football games! Unfortunately a knee injury sidelined him for the rest of the year but he is back healthy and ready to get on college coaches radars. Another young defender that has Coach Van Acker excited, Mohammed is 6'3 and 190 lbs.. Baker is a tough crafty corner who is being looked highly on by the Bulldogs coaching staff. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>You will also see Baker on offense at running back and possibly receiver, very mobile weapon. He may be the fastest kid they have on the field and with the speed in this group, particularly in the secondary alone that is saying something. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>I would expect Coach Van Acker to get creative with him offensively to help keep the pressure of Marshall. I have been really impressed on how much and fast we were able to make the transition to our new defense in such a short period of time. Very high football IQ amongst this group to transition to our attacking 3-4 base defense versus a more read and react 4-2-5 defense. we have some weapons on our offense and if we perform like I know we might turn some heads and change the direction of our football program."</em> Head Coach Jared Van Acker</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Season Outlook:</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Similar to last year, Hylton's schedule after a week 1 trip to Battlefield is very manageable. Games 2-4 are more than winnable and they have a new sense of confidence out in Woodbridge for this pesky group. The Bulldogs have a nice mix of star veterans and stock risers defensively, how they come together early offensively will be the key to a successful season. Year one of the Coach Van Acker era is beginning nicely with a lot of commitment during the summer workouts.
