PRZPA Team Preview, Cathedral Prep

Season Outlook: Erie Cathedral Prep had a good year finishing 7-4 on the year and losing to Peter's Township in the PIAA Playoffs. Cathedral Prep always prides itself on competing at the highest level, so many in the program might feel like it was a disappointment of a season. Cathedral Prep will be rebuilding to an extent, but still bring back a good group of young players.   Current Head Coach: Mike Krahe (Entering 3rd Season)   Key returning players for the 2024 season:    [player_tooltip player_id='1131825' first='Montay' last='Hollingsworth'] is a talented prospect for Cathedral Prep. He has all the skills to play at the next level as a talented linebacker. He has the speed, athleticism, and strength to play linebacker at a high level. Below is what I wrote about him earlier this year:   "[player_tooltip player_id='1131825' first='Montay' last='Hollingsworth']<a href="https://prepredzone.com/player/montay-hollingsworth/"></a> is an explosive athlete playing linebacker. He does a good job of reading his keys and then triggering downhill to make the tackle near the line of scrimmage. Hollingsworth is a good tackler, who is especially good in the open field. He also has a motor that never stops, making plays all over the field. He does a great job in coverage taking away the deep pass plays. Then when the ball is thrown underneath or short of the sticks he comes upfield and does a good job of making the tackle in the open field. He is good when the ball is thrown his way by knocking the pass away or intercepting the ball. Williams has a high skill set and should have a good chance at playing college football.    <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/Taijoun13/status/1718324398275608580 </div></figure>    [player_tooltip player_id='1131293' first='Cory' last='Allen'] is a legit wide receiver who can score anytime he touches the ball. His 1st two plays on film tell the story of [player_tooltip player_id='1131293' first='Cory' last='Allen']. In the 1st play, he ran and slant and go. He ran right past the defenders for a touchdown. In his 2nd play, he ran a bubble screen pass caught it, and broke two tackles for a touchdown. He has the speed and elusiveness to make defenders miss. Allen also runs excellent routes and catches a ball thrown too low. He is a dynamic wide receiver int he 2025 class.     I was impressed with Joseph Himes film last year at linebacker. Below is what I wrote about him earlier this year:   "Joseph Himes also has limited film, but he could play linebacker well. He does a nice job of reading and reacting to the play and then triggering downhill to make a play against the offense. He showed that he is a good tackler. Himes showed he is good at dropping in coverage and playing in a zone defense. Himes should become a bigger contributor next season".     Davin Freidman has a chance to be the starting quarterback for Cathedral Prep this year. He has all the tools to play at a high level at the QB position. He needs the experience and opportunity going forward. Below is what I wrote about him earlier this year:   "[player_tooltip player_id='427759' first='Davin' last='Friedman'] has limited film, mostly from Junior Varsity, but he played quarterback well. He has good mechanics and does a nice job of getting rid of the ball while in rhythm. He does a good job of making the right read and getting the ball to the open receiver. Friedman also shows good mobility. Friedman should have a good chance at starting on Varsity this year".     Camden Miller has limited film from last season on Junior Varsity, but he showed he has the skill to play at a high level. He does a good job of reading and reacting to the play and coming downhill from his linebacker position. He shows good instincts in reading the play and then attacking the line of scrimmage. He is also a good tackler in or near the line of scrimmage. He played as a wide receiver, defensive back, and occasionally a wildcat quarterback. He is a good athlete that moves well with the ball in his hands. At wide receiver and wildcat QB, he shows explosion and speed to make defenders miss in space. As a defensive back, he showed good coverage skills and breaking on the ball. Samson is a good player who should be a contributor this season for Cathedral Prep.     [player_tooltip player_id='914688' first='Ronan' last='Mourton'] has limited film from last year but showed some good skills as a wide receiver and defensive back. Mourton should be a bigger contributor this season for Cathedral Prep. I can see him making an impact as a defensive back or on special teams as a returner.     DeZarie Carson has some of the best Junior Varsity film I have seen in a while. He can score anytime he touches the ball. He is also a dynamic linebacker. Below is what I wrote about him earlier this year:   “DaZarie Carson has limited film from Freshman or Junior Varsity playing time, but he showed he is a legit running back with a bright future. Every time he touches the ball, he can take it to the house for a touchdown. He has elite speed and when he gets into the open field he is gone. Carson also hits the hole well and is a tough physical runner. Carson has a chance to be a really good player next year for Erie Cathedral Prep”.    <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/DazarieCarson/status/1810039896259830144 </div></figure>    Joseph Bernatowicz's film is from Junior Varsity, but he shows that he has skill at both wide receiver and defensive back. At wide receiver, he does a nice job of catching the ball in traffic in between defenders. At defensive back, he shows a good ability to cover receivers and then make a play on the ball when thrown in his direction. Bernatowicz should be a contributor this season for Cathedral Prep.    Final Thoughts: Cathedral Prep will be extremely young in some key spots, with 6 prospects I just wrote up as 2026 and 2027 prospects. They might take some lumps early, but they should improve as the season continues throughout the year.
