Throughout the month of July and even into August, we are publishing well over 100 of the most in-depth team previews that you'll find anywhere to get you completely ready for the 2024 football season. This is something that began for us at PRZ-Oklahoma in 2021 and it continues to get bigger and better every single year. We're looking forward to diving deep into the top teams across the state in every class. From defending champions, to the top contenders and plenty of dark horses and other teams to know, we'll have complete coverage every single day. There will be multiple previews dropping every single day! In this post, we take a look at the Marlow Outlaws!

Marlow Outlaws

Preseason Prep Redzone Ranking: #7 In Class 2A-1
Preseason Coaches Ranking: #3 In Class 2A-1

Head Coach: Matt Weber - 7th Season - 54-19 Record At Marlow

2023 RESULTS (9-4 Record - Lost In Class 3A Semifinals)

Sept. 1st - Beat Chickasha 37-14
Sept. 8th - Beat Comanche 42-6
Sept. 15th - Beat Perkins-Tryon 27-21 (OT)
Sept. 22nd - Beat Pauls Valley 22-7
Sept. 29th - Beat Lone Grove 20-7
Oct. 6th - Beat Dickson 40-0
Oct. 12th - Beat Douglass 64-7
Oct. 20th - Lost To Sulphur 14-13
Oct. 27th - Lost To Plainview 24-21
Nov. 3rd - Lost To Heritage Hall 35-28
1st Round - Beat Metro Christian 28-14
Quarterfinals - Beat Cascia Hall 45-7
Semifinals - Lost To Heritage Hall 31-29

2023 Offensive Scoring Average: 32 Points Per Game
2023 Defensive Scoring Average: 14.4 Points Per Game

The Marlow Outlaws definitely had a roller coaster of a season in 2023 and it had some very high highs and some lows throughout. They would start off the season as a top five team in Class 3A with the majority of their starters returning. And they certainly looked like a top five team right from the jump. They would start the season with a 7-0 record. That included a dramatic overtime win over a Perkins-Tryon team that beat them twice during the 2022 season. They took care of business and kept rolling when they got into district play. They hit the home stretch of the 2023 regular season and started hitting some speed bumps. They went from 7-0 to closing out the regular season at 7-3 following three straight losses. And those three losses were by a combined 11 points. They lost 14-13 to Sulphur in week eight, followed by a 24-21 loss to Plainview and finally a 35-28 loss to Heritage Hall. So needless to say, the Outlaws were reeling when the playoffs opened up. And they had to become road warriors in the first two rounds. The Outlaws traveled to Tulsa and beat Metro Christian in the first round and then returned to Tulsa the next week to beat Cascia Hall in the quarterfinals. That set up a semifinal clash with Heritage Hall and a rematch of that week ten loss. Marlow took the lead with less than two minutes left but Heritage Hall kicked a field goal to stun the Outlaws and end the season at 9-4. It was a wild ride and almost ended with another trip to Edmond but the four losses by a combined 13 points had to leave a sour taste in the mouth so we imagine the Outlaws are ready to get back on the field and finish what they started last season.

2024 OUTLOOK

The Outlaws will go into the 2024 season looking to finish what they started but they'll have to do it in a new class. Marlow is dropping down to Class 2A for at least the next two seasons and this year brings the start of two divisions for Class 2A, along with Class A and Class B. The Outlaws instantly become one of the teams you need to look for in the new Class 2A-1 as the last time they were playing in Class 2A, they were winning the state championship with a perfect 15-0 season in 2021. This season, the Outlaws come into the year as a top ten team at number seven in our preseason rankings. The 2A-1 coaches had high opinions as well as they came in at number three in the coaches rankings. This year's team will look a little different than the squad that we saw in Class 3A the last two years. First you start at the quarterback position and the Outlaws will have a new QB1 and for the first time in a while, he won't be a Gilbert. But Marlow is excited about some of the other players they bring back on offense, including pieces on the offensive line and a legitimate track star at running back. Five starters are back on offense but this is a unit that should improve over the season. What makes Marlow dangerous this year is their defense. They bring back seven starters on that side of the ball and this was a defensive unit that gave up just shy of 15 points per game in 2023. They could definitely be up there in terms of the best defenses in Class 2A-1 this fall. And that should help an offense that has some new faces and will have some growing pains early on. But Marlow's coaches are excited about the potential here because it's also a senior-led team. Almost all of their returning starters are seniors and the Outlaws are hoping that leads to a fast start when the season begins.

KEY LOSSES TO GRADUATION

Barron Gage - Wide Receiver
Cade Gilbert - Quarterback
Jase Hunt - Linebacker

PLAYERS TO WATCH

The quarterback position has a big circle around it as the Outlaws figure out what they are going to do about QB1. Senior [player_tooltip player_id='1337295' first='Blayd' last='Harris'] is one of the players that will be competing and trying to earn his way onto the field on the offensive side of the ball. The last two Marlow quarterbacks have been very athletic and can play on both sides of the ball. Harris already has the defensive part of the game down. He starts for the Outlaws in their secondary at safety. He led the team in interceptions last season as a junior with five. Now, he's looking to have a similar impact on the offensive side of the ball. He's clearly a good athlete so he fits that mold of athletic Marlow quarterbacks that we've seen recently.

Marlow does have to replace quite a few pieces off of last year's offense. One player that we think could end up having a breakout season on that side of the ball is senior [player_tooltip player_id='1337294' first='Jonny' last='Brite'] at the running back position. Brite saw playing time last season but he wasn't the main guy at running back. But with the graduation of multiple guys, Brite is going to have an opportunity to see his carries go up and his overall production could follow. Brite has already had success this year, coming off a successful track season in the spring. He would run away with the state championship in the 100 meter dash and the 200 meter dash so we look forward to seeing what he does on the gridiron.

We mentioned it earlier in the preview but we think that Marlow's defense has a chance to be very special this season with all the players they bring back. Senior linebacker [player_tooltip player_id='1337296' first='Korbin' last='Dittner'] is going to be one of the names to watch on that side of the ball after he was one of the team's leading tacklers in 2023. Jase Hunt was the team's leading tackler in 2023 but Dittner was right behind him and since Hunt graduated, that opened the door for Dittner to be the team's leading tackler in 2024. He was a tackling machine last season and has the potential to see his production absolutely explode in 2024. If Marlow improves on the dominant defense we saw last year, they'll be state title contenders.

MORE NAMES TO KNOW

Bradyn Brantley - 2025 Offensive Lineman
Brantz Bateman - 2025 Defensive Back
Brock Smith - 2025 Offensive/Defensive Lineman
Brody Brantley - 2025 Offensive Lineman
Clayton Robinson - 2025 TE/LB
Gage Hixon - 2025 Offensive/Defensive Lineman
[player_tooltip player_id='1716143' first='Hudson' last='Morgan'] - 2026 Linebacker
Jacob Crowson - 2025 Wide Receiver/Defensive Back
Kaden Harris - 2025 Defensive Back
Keller Kizarr - 2025 Defensive Back

2024 SCHEDULE/GAMES TO CIRCLE

Aug. 30th - AT North Rock Creek
- Marlow's 2024 season opener will take place on the road as they square off with North Rock Creek for the first time. The Cougars are going to be one of the better teams in Class 3A this season and they have some momentum after making their first ever playoff appearance last season. The Outlaws will lean on their defense to lead the way here as North Rock Creek does feature one of the better running backs in the state's 2025 class and he'll provide Marlow with a challenge right out of the gate.
Sept. 6th - AT Chickasha
Sept. 12th - Mustang JV
Sept. 27th - Lindsay
- District play opens up in week four and the Outlaws will do it in front of the home fans when they host Lindsay. Just like Marlow, Lindsay comes into this season as a top ten team and looking to make some noise. These two teams were district foes the last time Marlow was in Class 2A in 2020 and 2021. It was completely one-sided as Marlow won the two meetings by a combined score of 92-6. This year, it could be a little different as Lindsay has some solid experience coming back.
Oct. 4th - AT Lexington
Oct. 11th - Crossings Christian
Oct. 17th - AT Washington
- On a fall break Thursday night, Marlow will hit the road to face off with two-time defending 2A champion Washington. And while it was a pleasant surprise that Marlow dropped down from 3A to 2A-1, that pleasantness evaporated when they landed in the same district with the champs. Washington comes into this season with a 30-game winning streak. But the last team to beat the Warriors? Marlow. In the 2021 state championship game. This time, the district title will more than likely be on the line.
Oct. 25th - Dickson
Nov. 1st - AT Marietta
Nov. 8th - Little Axe

NOTABLE

The Oklahoma high school football landscape was shaken in April when we saw an emergency redistricting shuffle. Marlow was originally slated to be in Class 3A for the 2024 and 2025 seasons and it's been where they've been for the past two years. They were going to be a top ten team in a class that wasn't going to be so top-heavy with private schools. But when a group of OKC-area private schools won a case against the OSSAA, that was thrown out the window and the usual suspects returned to Class 3A. And that decision actually bumped Marlow down to Class 2A-1 and the last time we saw the Outlaws competing in Class 2A, they were going 15-0 and capturing their third state championship in school history. And there are plenty of players on this year's team that have fond memories of that title run in 2021. Marlow is one of those programs that is always going to be on the border. They'll either be one of the smallest schools in Class 3A or one of the largest schools in the new Class 2A-1. This year and next, it'll be 2A-1.

LAST FIVE SEASONS

2023 - 9-4 - Lost In Class 3A Semifinals
2022 - 7-4 - Lost In Class 3A 1st Round
2021 - 15-0 - Class 2A State Champions
2020 - 11-1 - Lost In Class 2A Quarterfinals
2019 - 7-4 - Lost In Class 3A 1st Round

CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY

3 State Championships

2021 - Beat Washington 17-13
1964 - Beat Bixby 25-12
1959 - Beat Hominy 32-0
