Throughout the month of July and even into August, we are publishing well over 100 of the most in-depth team previews that you'll find anywhere to get you completely ready for the 2024 football season. This is something that began for us at PRZ-Oklahoma in 2021 and it continues to get bigger and better every single year. We're looking forward to diving deep into the top teams across the state in every class. From defending champions, to the top contenders and plenty of dark horses and other teams to know, we'll have complete coverage every single day. There will be multiple previews dropping every single day! In this post, we take a look at the Kingston Redskins!

Kingston Redskins

Preseason Prep Redzone Ranking: #5 In Class 2A-1
Preseason Coaches Ranking: #7 In Class 2A-2

Head Coach: Brad Hill - 3rd Season - 15-8 Record At Kingston

2023 RESULTS (10-2 Record - Lost In Class 2A 2nd Round)

Aug. 25th - Beat Madill 35-34 (OT)
Sept. 1st - Lost To Idabel 54-13
Sept. 8th - Beat Hugo 55-0
Sept. 22nd - Beat Atoka 54-20
Sept. 29th - Beat Coalgate 55-6
Oct. 6th - Beat Davis 24-21
Oct. 12th - Beat Tishomingo 42-14
Oct. 20th - Beat Holdenville 34-28
Oct. 26th - Beat Lexington 49-0
Nov. 3rd - Beat Marietta 41-14
1st Round - Beat Frederick 30-27
2nd Round - Lost To Alva 28-23

2023 Offensive Scoring Average: 37.9 Points Per Game
2023 Defensive Scoring Average: 20.5 Points Per Game

The future's looking bright for the Kingston Redskins and it started in 2023. After going 5-5 and missing out on the playoffs in 2021, Kingston started a new era in 2022 with Brad Hill taking over as head coach. He immediately took the Redskins back to the playoffs in his first season and then elevated the program once again in 2023. Kingston would win ten games in 2021 and 2022 combined. They won ten games last season. They opened the year with a tough overtime win over Madill. They followed that up with a tough loss to Idabel but then didn't lose again until the playoffs. They shut out Hugo 55-0 and then went through the district slate with a perfect record. They would beat legendary Davis 24-21 in a memorable victory and that set them up for taking home the district championship. They beat Holdenville in week eight with a 34-28 victory and then dominated in the final two weeks to finish the regular season at 9-1 and they captured the district championship. After escaping a first round game with Frederick, the Redskins were upset by Alva in the second round and the season came to an end at 10-2. But like we mentioned at the top, the future's looking bright as the Redskins have turned things around and could get back to rattling off ten win seasons like we saw not that long ago.

2024 OUTLOOK

The Redskins enter the 2024 season with high expectations following that 10-win season a year ago. With the split in Class 2A, this is a new class division and district for the Redskins and everything looks favorable for them to win at least ten games again and make that deep run into the playoffs. They are ranked number five in our preseason rankings and they have the firepower returning to continue to climb the ranks throughout the season. This season we'll see seven starters back on the offensive side of the ball and the conversation on offense starts with a very productive quarterback returning. We also like what the Redskins bring back in terms of production in the running game. If they can find some new faces along the offensive line, we think this offensive unit can outdo what the 2023 squad accomplished, which was averaging nearly 40 points per game. The Redskins also bring back eight starters on the defensive side of the ball and because of that experience and overall talent, it wouldn't be surprising to see that unit be one of the more improved parts of this team in 2024. Kingston is going to be tested early on in the season but we believe that by the time they hit the halfway mark, they'll be rolling. It wouldn't be surprising to see them run away with another district championship and we know that they aren't going to be happy with just another district title. They want to contend for that gold ball.

KEY LOSSES TO GRADUATION

Aiden Donnell - Offensive Lineman
Delton O'Steen - Running Back
Rhett Coble - Linebacker

PLAYERS TO WATCH

When we looked at what Kingston had coming back from a production standpoint in the passing game, it's hard not to be impressed with the group of receivers that are returning. They bring back two guys that each had over 400 yards and another that was right there. Senior receiver [player_tooltip player_id='1330260' first='Eli' last='Oliger'] is the leading returner in the receiving department. He finished his junior season with nearly 40 catches for nearly 550 yards and five touchdowns. Based on everything we've seen on paper, we think that the Kingston passing attack could be a unit to look out for in Class 2A-1 this season. And if that's the case, we expect Oliger to elevate those numbers during his senior season.

We mentioned earlier in the preview how Kingston's defense has the potential to be one of the more improved units in 2A-1 football this fall. Senior defensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id='1330258' first='Isaac' last='Hahn'] is a big reason behind that claim. Hahn leads a defensive unit that brings back nearly every starter from a year ago. And when you look at Hahn from a physical standpoint, he's a guy that passes the eye test. He's listed at 6'4 and is a nightmare coming off the edge for the Kingston defense. He's going to be a problem for opponents that can't match his size or athleticism. And because of that, he has the potential to really set the tone for how good this Kingston defense can be this fall.

Junior standout [player_tooltip player_id='1330264' first='Parks' last='Ratzlaff'] had a breakout sophomore season in 2023 and we can't help but wonder what his production will look like in 2024. Ratzlaff finished the year with 15 touchdowns between running and receiving. He finished the year with nearly 450 yards on the ground and another 200+ yards receiving. Ratzlaff is one part of a Kingston offense that was incredibly productive in a variety of ways in 2023. As we start looking ahead to this season, Kingston has those high expectations and with a versatile athlete like Ratzlaff returning, that should help them live up to the hype. Whether it's on offense, defense or wherever he is on the field, he expects to impact the game.

Junior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1330266' first='Reid' last='Patterson'] is going to come into this season as one of the top quarterbacks in Class 2A-1. During his sophomore season, there weren't many dual-threat quarterbacks that were more productive than Patterson. He would finish the year with nearly 1,800 yards passing and 17 touchdowns. He also added over 800 yards and 11 touchdowns on the ground. We are fired up to see what kind of numbers Patterson puts up this season. The Redskins are not lacking talent in the skill department so as a pure passer, Patterson will have weapons to throw it to while also still having that ability to lead the team in rushing. He'll be a fun player to watch.

MORE NAMES TO KNOW

Adrian Sloan - 2025 Offensive Lineman
[player_tooltip player_id='1708812' first='Blane' last='Henry'] - 2027 Tight End/Defensive Lineman
Brady Greene - 2025 Offensive/Defensive Lineman
Brayden Ellisor - 2025 Defensive Back
Cash Walker - 2025 Wide Receiver
Jacoby Jackson - 2025 Defensive Lineman
Jamie Lewis - 2026 Kicker
[player_tooltip player_id='1708806' first='Logan' last='Stephens'] - 2026 Running Back
[player_tooltip player_id='1549565' first='Sam' last='Walker'] - 2025 Wide Receiver
[player_tooltip player_id='1708817' first='Ty' last='Jones'] - 2027 Wide Receiver/Defensive Back

2024 SCHEDULE/GAMES TO CIRCLE

Aug. 30th - AT Madill
Sept. 6th - Fairview
- In week one, Kingston will be hosting two-time defending Class A state champion Fairview and this will be one of the marquee games featuring smaller schools that week. Fairview is not only coming off winning back to back state championships, they are carrying a 30-game winning streak into the 2024 season. They'll open the season against Alva and if they win, the Redskins will get an opportunity to snap the longest active winning streak in the state and that would give them a ton of momentum.
Sept. 13th - Comanche
Sept. 27th - Kiefer
- The district schedule will kick off in week four at home against Kiefer. You can make the argument that Kingston's two toughest district games are both at home and that will certainly help as they look to capture another district championship. Kiefer comes into this season as a top ten team and possibly the biggest threat to Kingston in district play. The Trojans have a talented team that almost made it to the state title game a year ago. It's only week four but the district title could be decided here.
Oct. 4th - AT Okmulgee
Oct. 10th - Bethel
Oct. 17th - AT Heavener
Oct. 25th - Prague
- The Redskins have a tough road slate to close the regular season. Three of their last four games are all on the road but the one home game might be the toughest. They'll host Prague in week eight and like Kingston, Prague is coming off a district championship and they were one of the better teams in Class 2A a year ago. This was an 11-1 squad a year ago but they graduated almost everyone. They aren't lacking talent and by week eight, this will be a team that is experienced and ready to make some noise.
Nov. 1st - AT Hugo
Nov. 8th - AT Roland

NOTABLE

In April, we had an emergency redistricting scenario that threw all of the classes, districts and schedules up in the air. When the dust settled, Kingston actually found themselves in a district where they could be looked at as the favorite but it's certainly going to require more travel. The Redskins were in a district with two-time defending champion Washington, along with Crooked Oak, Lindsay, Little Axe, Marietta, Mount Saint Mary and Oklahoma Christian School. Now, they find themselves in a district with Bethel, Heavener, Hugo, Kiefer, Okmulgee, Prague and Roland. The four district road games aren't exactly close. Their week nine trip to Hugo will be the shortest at 75 miles. But they follow that up in week ten with a 200-mile trip to Roland. While the Redskins are in a good position to rack up some wins this season, they'll also be racking up the miles.

LAST FIVE SEASONS

2023 - 10-2 - Lost In Class 2A 2nd Round
2022 - 5-6 - Lost In Class 2A 1st Round
2021 - 5-5 - Missed Playoffs
2020 - 11-1 - Lost In Class 3A Quarterfinals
2019 - 12-2 - Lost In Class 2A Semifinals

CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY

1 State Championship

1980 - Beat Talihina 13-6
