Denham Springs struggled down the stretch in a tough District 5-5A in 2023 and will have to replace a big 2024 senior class that included notable college talent.

But the Yellow Jackets' coaches and returning leaders are confident in the group they have, the progress they've seen this offseason and their potential to bounce back strong.

Denham Springs continues Prep Redzone Louisiana's series of "Offseason 3-2-1" spotlights looking at three key returning standouts, two notable breakout candidates and one underclassman to know sooner than later.

3 WELL-KNOWN RETURNERS

[player_tooltip player_id='144906' first='Jerry' last='Horne'] — 6-2, 205 QB — Denham Springs (2025)

and Da'Jean Golmond — 6-1, 185 QB/ATH — Denham Springs (2026)

The Yellow Jackets figure to see a pair of familiar faces at quarterback again this fall for the second straight season. Horne, the rising senior, has been among Prep Redzone Louisiana's highest-ranked 2025 prospects at the position from his underclassman days backing up and pushing 2023 standout Reese Mooney to taking the reins as the junior starter. And Da'Jean Golmond is one half of the talented twin duo, the younger brothers of prolific former running back Tyre Golmond, who have been up-and-coming multisport standouts who proved too talented already to keep off the field as sophomores.

[player_tooltip player_id='1348429' first='DaSean' last='Golmond'] — 6-1, 190 WR/ATH — Denham Springs (2026)

and [player_tooltip player_id='1335962' first='Tylan' last='Haynes'] — 6-1, 180 WR — Denham Springs (2025)

Da'Jean's twin, DaSean, is a versatile athlete who should join Haynes, a returning second-team all-district selection, as two of Denham's top weapons in the passing game. Both receivers provide a good combination of size and speed and have shown the versatility to be effective working out wide or from the slot and on either side of the formation.

[player_tooltip player_id='913906' first='Rancher' last='Miller'] — 6-0, 190 DB — Denham Springs (2025)

The hard-hitting safety earned second-team all-district honors as a junior in a secondary headlined by a pair of highly ranked, college-bound 2024 stars and now returns as one of the team's clear senior leaders. Miller's physicality has been a strength throughout his high school career, but he has also continued to develop his coverage skills and showed the ability during 7-on-7 this summer to go up and snatch even tough interceptions.

2 BREAKOUT CANDIDATES

[player_tooltip player_id='401739' first='Brenton' last='Paul'] — 5-9, 180 RB — Denham Springs (2026)

The rising junior has started to draw a few comparisons to another former 2023 standout, the aforementioned Mooney's backfield partner Raydrian McKneely, with his burst and quick cuts, but also a solid build and power to his game running through contact. Paul looks poised to be one of the Yellow Jackets' top weapons on offense this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='920622' first='Cedric' last='Polk Jr.'] — 6-1, 220 LB — Denham Springs (2026)

"C.J." caught our attention during spring practice last year, at the end of his freshman year, already looking the part with his size and burst off the edge. Polk played well in that role this past fall, looked smooth dropping back in coverage in this summer's 7-on-7 action and should be one of the notable players to watch on defense this season as the Yellow Jackets replace their big 2024 graduating class.

1 UNDERCLASSMAN TO KNOW

[player_tooltip player_id='739754' first='Jeremy' last='Williams'] — 6-2 DB/ATH — Denham Springs (2027)

We've seen more of the promising young athlete on the basketball court thus far in his high school career than on the football field, but Williams was one of the Baton Rouge area's top middle-school football players two years ago and has the potential to be a high-impact player in both sports with his size, thick build and athleticism if he continues with both.
