Christ Church got to the top of the mountain in 2023, defeating Johnsonville to secure the 1A state championship finishing with a 13-2 record. Now as 2024 approaches, the Cavaliers are moving up to region 2-3A with Carolina, Palmetto, Powdersville, Southside Christian & St. Joe's. Christ Coach head coach Quin Hatfield says his team has had a productive offseason coming together and are excited about the challenges it will bring.

“We're moving from 1A to 3A. Everybody's aware of that and I think that naturally has created a hunger for us, you know? And our goal is to win the state championship and play in December. It's going to be a different landscape and there's some unknowns but we feel like our approach and hard work and guys we have, we're on a mission so we're excited about it,” Hatfield said.

Looking at the offensive side of the ball, the Cavaliers will return some experience up front with Charlie Shields and [player_tooltip player_id='1592657' first='Rody' last='Barnett']. Hatfield is excited about [player_tooltip player_id='1403912' first='Reid' last='Hipp'] at tight end, who will be coming up from JV. On the defensive side of the ball, this was a unit that allowed 12.4 points per game in 2023. [player_tooltip player_id='1213961' first='Anthony' last='Atkins'] will anchor a secondary that Hatfield says will be the strength of the defense. On the defensive line, [player_tooltip player_id='1734501' first='George' last='Michael Stathakis'] and Jackson Linz both return while Ford Glenn and [player_tooltip player_id='1214975' first='Will' last='Marguet'] round things out at linebacker.

STARS SET TO SHINE

[player_tooltip player_id='1013068' first='Tucker' last='Hendrix'] QB, 2025 – Hendrix (pictured above) lit up the scoreboard in 2025 with 2803 passing yards and 43 passing touchdowns, averaging 200 passing yards per game. We expect that to continue in 2024 with his arm strength and group of receivers returning. He garnered first team All-Region honors in 2023 for his play. He committed to Clemson University as a preferred walk on back on March 27.

[player_tooltip player_id='1012637' first='Jackson' last='Repp'] WR, 2025 – Repp had an outstanding junior season for the Cavaliers, recording 63 receptions for 1510 yards and 27 touchdowns in 2023. His ability to make people miss after he makes the catch is one of the things that is fun to watch with him. Repp said he has around 13 offers including Richmond, Boston College, Charleston Southern and Georgia State, to name a few.

[player_tooltip player_id='816751' first='Jude' last='Hall'] WR, 2026 – At 6-foot-4, Hall will be a matchup problem for opposing defensive backs. He finished the 2023 campaign with 24 receptions for 540 yards and 9 touchdowns. If you need a ball to be caught one-on-one, he is your guy.

Hendrix on the duo of Repp and Hall: “It's special because any passing play no matter how short or long it is, that can be a touchdown (or) getting the ball down the field. People see Jude who's a guy who is going to go up and get the ball but Jude's fast and shifty. Same thing with Jackson. Jackson is fast and shifty. We had situations last year and I'm sure even more this year where Jackson is going to be able to go up and get the ball and make a guy miss down the field and make a big play.”

FILM REVIEW

[player_tooltip player_id='1012695' first='Acie' last='Hatfield'] DB, 2025 – If you want a hard hitter, Hatfield is your guy. We saw him several times come across the middle and drill the ball carrier, especially on short and intermediate routes. We were also impressed with his ability to make plays in run support and make sure tackles in space.

KEY LOSSES

Cooper Hronchek LB – A three year starter on varsity for the Cavaliers who played on both sides of the ball.

Dashun Reeder RB – Hatfield called him a hall of famer at Christ Church. The school's leading rusher is now at Northwestern University.

UP AND COMING POTENTIAL

Michael Martin RB, 2028 – While we haven't seen him take the field as a freshman, Hatfield thinks he has a huge upside and is excited about what he brings to the table.

Hayes Lyman WR, 2027 – Lyman played in limited action as a freshman, but Hatfield is expecting his production to increase heading into 2024.

Garrett has a nice frame and will wreak havoc from his defensive line spot. He can read plays quickly and get into the backfield to stop the run. He will defeat blocks one-on-one to limit plays to a short gain.
