One yard.

For returning players like Class 3A All-State defensive back/wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id='1157893' first='Jordan' last='Crim'] and head coach Brian Rimph, those two words are a painful reminder of last season's conclusion.

It was the length Class 3A All-State quarterback Grayson White was marked short of the goal line as he attempted to rush in the game-winning 2-point conversion in the championship contest against defending titleholder Daniel.

Over seven months later, the 49-48 overtime loss continues to both haunt and inspire the Bulldogs.

“I've lost some big games, not a lot being a winning team,” Crim said. “But losing and coming that close to a state championship, there's literally no other feeling like it. That's probably the worst thing I've ever felt. The motivation from that is everlasting, really.”

“It took me a long time to get over that one,” Rimph said. “Actually still haven't watched the film from it. I guess maybe I'm still in the denial phase.”

What's undeniable is Camden's run of success the past five seasons. As the team moves up to Class 4A, it will turn to different leaders on offense after graduating eight starters.

Rising senior [player_tooltip player_id='1575400' first='Wyatt' last='Thompson'] moves over from safety to replace White at quarterback. In taking over for co-winningest quarterback in program history, the 6-foot-1, 185-pound Thompson looks to build upon the experience he saw in limited appearances at the position.

At both running back and wide receiver, the Bulldogs will utilize a “committee” approach. Rising juniors Navi Boykin and Evan Presbot provide contrasting running styles out of the backfield and Crim, Treyvon Wright and [player_tooltip player_id='1165092' first='Tylin' last='Drakeford'] will share in the wide receiving duties.

All three wideouts will see action in the secondary. Upfront, the Bulldogs return defensive ends Tanner Bracey and [player_tooltip player_id='1267206' first='Dontrell' last='Wilson'] and track standout Javon Wesley will be utilized at outside linebacker.

Camden's schedule will contest of playing 10 playoff teams from a year ago. Even with the challenging games ahead, the Bulldogs' motivation to return to Oliver C. Dawson Stadium for another run at the state title.

“We've all been working hard towards this season and making it back to Orangeburg and to win it this time,” Bracey said.

STARS SET TO SHINE

[player_tooltip player_id='1573987' first='Lavonte' last='Williams'] DB, 2025 – The 6-foot-2, 165-pound rising senior is versatile on both sides of the football. His length and speed makes him effective both in stretching the defense at wide receiver and pass coverage at defensive back.

Tanner Bracey DL 2025 – A Class 3A All-State offensive lineman playing at tight end, he had 29 tackles at defensive end.

[player_tooltip player_id='1267206' first='Dontrell' last='Wilson'] DL, 2026 – The rising junior amassed 61 tackles and three sacks playing at defensive end and nose guard.

FILM REVIEW

[player_tooltip player_id='1157893' first='Jordan' last='Crim'] DB 2025 – The Class 3A All-State defensive back had 87 tackles and four interceptions last season. He also contributed 10 receptions for 206 yards and three touchdowns and was the team's leading kick returner. All three facets of Crim's game is high on display on his junior year video.

BIGGEST LOSS (es)

Grayson White QB – The heart and soul of the Bulldogs' offense the past three seasons, having finished with over 5,000 career total yards.

Jaquarius Mayrant WR – An All-State Class 3A wide receiver, he was threat both rushing and catching the football with 1,689 total yards and 19 touchdowns.

Wilson Nash LB – The Bulldogs' leading tackler the past two seasons.

UP-AND-COMING POTENTIAL

Treyvon Wright DB, 2026 –.
