An explosive offense powered Broome to one of the best seasons in program history in 2023. The Centurions had nearly 5,000 yards of total offense and averaged more than 40 points per game as they went 9-3. That matched Broome's record in 2013 and those were the most wins in a season since the 2005 team went 11-1.

Some key players that accounted for much of that offense have moved on, leaving big shoes to fill. It might be hard for any team to match those kind of numbers anyway, but Broome coach Lynn Fleming believes last season was just the start of something bigger for the program.

"This has kind of been a group that we've been waiting on. It's very talented. We expected to be good last year and expect to be good for the next several years," Fleming said. "Our youth league started this when we got here (in 2017). This was a big piece of our puzzle. ... It's been a great summer, but we're excited to get the summer done and ready to play football."

A new face in the offensive spotlight this year will be junior quarterback Jameson Dearybury (6-foot, 150 pounds). He replaces Kamajay Brackett-Brannon , who was one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks in the state last season after posting more than 2,800 yards of total offense.

"(Jameson) is going to be a little different from Kamajay in that he's going to throw the ball a lot. ... Kamajay's strength was his legs, but he could throw the ball," Fleming said. "Jameson's strength is his arm, but he can run the football too. He's had a great summer and it's going to be a big year for him."

Two of Dearybury's top targets should be Broome's two leading receivers from last season in Grayson Bradley and Tre'Sean Suber (pictured).

"Our 7-on-7s have been good this year. Even though Jameson's new, most of us already played with him so I feel like our team chemistry is good," said Suber, who also had a team-high seven interceptions on defense last year. "The 7-on-7s help on defense because it forces you to communicate. That comes with people switching routes and things like that."

In addition to Suber, Broome's defense looks to be led by senior defensive back Amajai Martin (5-foot-9, 140 pounds), senior defensive end Bryson Arrowood (6-foot, 190 pounds), senior linebacker Jaiden Thomas (6-foot, 200 pounds) and junior linebacker [player_tooltip player_id='1592026' first='Tyqwon' last='Booker'] (6-foot-2, 160 pounds).

STARS SET TO SHINE

Amajai Martin DB/WR, 2025 - Martin was among Broome's leaders in tackles and passes broken up in 2023. He's looking to be a bigger part of Broome's revamped offense this year. "We may not kill defenses as much with the run this year, but Jameson's arm is going to make up for it," Martin said. "It's especially exciting for us (receivers) to get to touch the ball more."

Grayson Bradley WR, 2025 - Bradley led Broome in receptions with 27 last season. He had 339 yards receiving and three touchdowns. Bradley also ran for a score.

Bryson Arrowood DE, 2025 - Arrowood led the way up front for a Broome defense that may have been a little overshadowed. The Centurions allowed no more than 21 points in eight games. Arrowood believes the unit is set to improve. "We had a lot of sophomores and juniors on defense last season, so we've got a lot of experience there now," Arrowood said.

Jaiden Thomas LB/RB, 2025 - Thomas is a dynamic playmaker for the Centurions defense, whether rushing to disrupt the offensive backfield or dropping back into pass coverage. He's a big hitter as well.

FILM STUDY

Tre'Sean Suber WR/DB, 2026 - Suber is a 6-foot, 175-pound target who somehow looks bigger on film. Film shows Suber's knack for making a big play out of nowhere, highlighted by one in which he nearly slipped down on a screen pass but pushed off the ground with his left hand to maintain his balance before taking off for a touchdown. Suber had 22 catches for 372 yards and three touchdowns and ran for another score in 2023. In addition to his seven interceptions, he also forced a fumble and recovered one.

BIGGEST LOSSES

Kamajay Brackett-Brannon QB - Brackett-Brannon completed 70 percent of his passes for 1,564 yards with 14 touchdowns and no interceptions last season, while rushing for 1,269 yards and 18 touchdowns.

[player_tooltip player_id='473001' first='Jaylen' last='McGill'] RB - McGill rushed for 1,792 yards and scored 30 total touchdowns as a sophomore last season before transferring this year.

Steven O'Dell OL - O'Dell helped pave the way up front for the Centurions last season and is now at Furman.

UP-AND-COMING POTENTIAL

Jameson Dearybury QB, 2026 - While this will be his first year on the varsity team, Dearybury is a name that should be familiar to Broome fans. Dearybury wears No. 5, just like his father Spencer Dearybury did when he was Broome's quarterback from 1991-93. He now coaches quarterbacks for the Centurions.

[player_tooltip player_id='1592026' first='Tyqwon' last='Booker'] RB/LB, 2026 - Booker was the leading tackler on the team as a sophomore last season. This season, he could also make an impact on offense filling the hole at running back.

Levi Bishop OL/DL, 2026 - Bishop earned playing time as a sophomore in the trenches last season and should be set for even more this season.

Simpson is a speed demon who already has chemistry with Dearybury as the two connected on long touchdowns for Broome's JV squad last season.
