Which sleeper running backs do you need to keep an eye on this fall?

Prep Redzone has the details...

[player_tooltip player_id='415047' first='Antone' last='Johnson'] - Tattnal Square

He may play at a private school, but make no mistake, Johnson is one of the top backs across Macon and Middle Georgia in the 2025 class. A two-way standout who can also make plays at safety, Johnson is a dynamic back with terrific speed, change of direction, and the ability to score on any particular play. He runs bigger than his 6-foot-0 175-pound frame, so he does have the ability to break tackles, but his burst, vision, and ability to elude defenders is why he can absolutely play somewhere at the next level. He's coming off an incredibly productive junior season last season where he ran wild for 1,819 yards and 24 touchdowns in 12 games. He's a big-play machine who rushed for at least one touchdown in every game but two. He's also rushed for at least 100 yards in nine games and hit the 200-yard mark in three games. Look for him to light up the stat sheet again as a senior this fall.

Khalas Finley - Lafayette

A powerful, bowling ball of a back who runs hard behind his pads, Finley is tough to tackle and has no problem lowering his should and dishing out some punishment to opposing defenders. He's not a burner, but his ability to fight through tackles and keep the chains moving is why he's one of the toughest backs in the area. He's excellent in short-yardage situations and around the goal-line, and it led to a big junior season last fall. The big 6-foot-3 190-pound back ran for an impressive 1,309 yards and 12 touchdowns in just 10 games. He ran for at least 78 yards in every game throughout the 2023 season, hitting the 100-yard mark eight times last fall including each of the last four games of the season. He's one of the more consistent backs in the region who made a big impact as a runner every Friday night. If he continues to work hard over the next two months and adds a little more speed to his game, Finley could put up even bigger numbers in his final season in 2024.

Day'Shawn Brown – Colquitt County

One of the top sleeper running backs in South Georgia, Brown is ready to show he's one of the best of the best in the area for the 2025 class this season. He was a dependable option in the running back for the powerful Packers as a junior last year, rushing for an impressive 976 yards and 14 touchdowns. He was a consistent threat all season long and made defenses pay if they took wrong angles or didn't use proper tackling technique. He may not have ideal size, but he runs hard, slips through tackles, and made very carry matter. When given the opportunity to stand out and carry the load, Brown always came through, rushing for at least 100 yards in four games. He was great around the goal-line, finding the endzone in every game but three as a junior. His best game of the season came against Richmond Hill where he rushed for 127 yards and three touchdowns. Look for Brown to have a giant senior season for Colquitt County later this year.
