Islander's TE [player_tooltip player_id='1055706' first='Riley' last='Holling'] quietly had himself a very productive junior year and will return as GI's leading receiver. The 6'3" 205-pound TE/LB, [player_tooltip player_id='1055706' first='Riley' last='Holling'] broke out with 32 receptions for 521 yards and scored a receiving touchdown. Riley is an interesting TE prospect because of his versatility as a "flex TE." He can be split out wide and moved across the formation to exploit mismatches. Holling's size and strength allow him to fight off aggressive DBs, and he possesses the quickness and burst to run past slower LBs. Riley understands his route concepts well and does a great job filling in the soft zones in coverage. He flashes some nice toughness after the catch with his ability to shake off tackle attempts to stay upright and rumble for a few extra yards. Riley is also a willing blocker who can play in-line or make perimeter blocks. Holling also contributed 11 tackles, 2 TFLs, and a fumble recovery on defense and should look to be a bigger part of the defense in 2024.

Lincoln Southwest's [player_tooltip player_id='533080' first='Griffin' last='Semrad'] is a player who is surprisingly still flying under the radar. Semrad proved to be a playmaker on both sides of the ball for the Silver Hawks, hauling in 23 catches for 237 yards and a receiving touchdown while racking up 59 tackles and a fumble recovery on defense. Semrad does have the talent and upside to play either receiver or safety and has impressive testing numbers, including a 4.67 40-yard dash, 4.19 pro-agility, and a 33" vertical jump to further show his athleticism. Semrad does an especially good job when you can get him the ball in space and allow him to use his fast twitch and quick change of direction to make defenders whiff on tackles. I saw Griffin compete at a showcase earlier this year and noticed that he does a great job creating separation from defenders at the top of his route. Defensively, Griffin is quick to read and react to what he sees out of the offense as he patrols the deep field from the safety position. He does a good job breaking on the ball and displays the range to come crashing down and help out against the run. Good sideline-to-sideline coverage. Definitely worth taking a look at this summer!

Exciting times over at Millard North as they go into their first season with a new HC and a roster loaded with top-tier talent. In that talented group is senior linebacker [player_tooltip player_id='319557' first='Rocky' last='Chavez'], who has been a player on our radar for quite some time now and is coming off a great junior season. As a junior, Rocky tallied 53 tackles, 7 TFLs, and 3 sacks. Rocky is a big, tough linebacker who really excels when he can play downhill and be a disruptive force against the run or pass. Chavez showed that he could take on linemen at the line of scrimmage with the power and violent hand usage to disengage from blocks and work his way into the backfield. He's a high IQ player who can read his run/pass keys very well and does a great job filling in his gaps effectively. Versatile— Rocky fits the mold of a traditional inside backer but possesses the quickness and bend also to win some reps coming off the edge. He moves very well for his 6'1" and 210-pound frame and can hit like a train when he's coming at you full speed. Very sound tackler. Overall, a smart, physical linebacker with lots of varsity experience and could really boost a LB room.

The Hastings Tigers are a team that I believe could make a push for Memorial Stadium this November behind a stellar senior group led by QB [player_tooltip player_id='736407' first='Tucker' last='Synek']. Synek led the Tigers to a quarter-final playoff berth in 2023 after throwing for 2,262 yards at a 66% completion rate and passing for 14 touchdowns. When watching Tucker's junior tape, I really liked his vision both downfield looking at his receivers and his pocket vision. He does very well at maneuvering within the pocket and is mobile enough to evade pressure. As he's extending plays with his legs, Tucker maintains his eyes downfield, moving through his progressions as he looks for an open receiver. Synek consistently gives his receiver a catchable ball as he throws with good anticipation and shows good ball placement, putting it right where his pass catcher needs it. Watch for Tucker and Co. to take another leap forward in 2024.
