Here is a look at five ranked defensive players who have not recently been featured and who hope that a strong offseason showing at camps and combines will help them rise the rankings.

This group of five represents the “Wild, Wild West” of Kansas as there are Cowboys, Buffaloes, Indians, and Eagles all represented.

[player_tooltip player_id='1115463' first='Brayden' last='Foss'], DB, 5'10”, 145, Colby

Foss is the ninth-ranked defensive back in the Kansas Class of 2025 and is a multiple-sport talent still flying under the radar. Foss made 48 tackles last season from Colby's defensive backfield. He also made 19 receptions for 220 yards and returned kicks for Eagles. Foss can pitch and play the infield on the baseball diamond. He had a record of 3-3 in nine appearances on the mound in 2024. He finished with a 3.75 ERA and collected 15 hits and 10 stolen bases. Foss is ranked No. 64 overall by Prep Redzone and plays basketball for Colby.

[player_tooltip player_id='1115462' first='Guy' last='Tubbs'], DB, 6'3”, 210, Colby

Prep Redzone has Culwell's teammate listed as a defensive back, but he is talented enough to play linebacker and was recently featured in a report on hybrid-tight ends. Tubbs is ranked No. 76 overall in the class of 2025. He finished with 37 total tackles and one interception during his junior campaign. He also caught 22 balls for 389 yards and four touchdowns in nine games last fall. Prep Redzone scout Wade Cargile called Tubbs “a stud in the making.” Like Culwell, he also plays on the Colby Basketball squad.

[player_tooltip player_id='733208' first='Rhett' last='Ihrig'], DL, 6'3”, 225, Goodland

Irig is one of the highest-ranked defensive linemen from Western Kansas. The Goodland prospect collected 31 total tackles during his junior season. He had an injury-shortened junior season and will want to prove his health during his senior campaign. The Cowboy lineman is effective against the run and the pass. He recorded 13 TFLs last season and forced two fumbles. He is currently ranked No. 110 overall among his 2025 peers.

[player_tooltip player_id='1115489' first='Dalton' last='Meyers'], LB, 6'2”, 190, Hays

Meyers is a talented linebacker who has not been recently featured. The Hays linebacker was named the WAC Defensive Player Of The Year after his junior season. He has quality speed and is disruptive in the backfield. He recorded 15 tackles for lost yardage, three quarterback sacks, and created two safeties. The Hays prospect is currently ranked No. 260 overall by Prep Redzone and collected 78 total tackles for the Indians last fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='1214953' first='Dorian' last='Culwell'], LB, 5'9”, 150, Rawlins County

Culwell is a fast hard-hitting prospect from the eight-man ranks. He finished with 95 total tackles during his junior season. Nineteen of his tackles resulted in lost yardage. His speed is a major factor in getting in the opponent's backfield and used that same speed to tote the rock for the Buffaloes. He rushed for 597 yards and six touchdowns on 99 carries last season. Culwell is currently ranked No. 325 overall in the Kansas Class of 2025.
