Ean Marria – Sequoyah
A thick, powerful two-way player out of Cherokee County, Marria is a bowling ball at running back who can attack the quarterback on defense. He’s tough, physical, and loves contact with a thick, muscular 5-foot-11 220-pound frame. A multi-sport star who also shines on the baseball diamond, Marria is a natural athlete who loves to compete, and it showed last fall on Friday nights. This under-the-radar defender was extremely productive as a pass-rusher last fall, getting to the quarterback nine times last year, towards the top for returning defenders in the 6A class. He’s quick off the ball, plays with good leverage, and has an impressive motor. He was tough to handle all season long and should be even better as a senior in 2024. Marria also made 36 tackles and 11 more TFLS. He’s one of the top returning defenders in Cherokee County and has the potential to chase down plenty of quarterbacks once again next season.
Jamarion Cooper – Sprayberry
A sleeper Cobb County linebacker on the rise, Cooper showed last year that he’s one of the more underrated pass-rushers in the region and possibly across the state in the 6A class. He’s a versatile defender who may not bring eye-opening size at just 5-foot-9 185-pounds, but he’s a ball player. He gives consistent effort and found his way to the quarterback often in 2023, totaling 7.5 sacks to go along with 74 tackles and 8.5 TFLs. He’s smart, instinctive, and did a great job of eluding defenders and chasing down the quarterback. He may not be the biggest or fastest linebacker in the 6A class, but he was active and disruptive just about every Friday night. This Sprayberry defender is a sure tackler, he’s technically sound, and bound for a gigantic senior season in 2024. He’s still flying under the radar for now, but it may not be that way for long.
Kane Bryd – Veterans
Without a doubt one of the top sleeper defensive linemen in Middle Georgia, this Kathleen native is coming off a junior season where he flashed D1 potential and put up big numbers on the stat sheet. He brings good size at 6-foot-2 220-pounds, but his toughness and game-wrecking ability stood out quickly on film. He plays with good leverage and uses his strong hands to lock onto opposing linemen and drive them backwards. He was as productive as anyone in the region and across 6A last year as it relates to getting to the quarterback, earning seven sacks last year as a junior. He also made 55 tackles and 14 TFLs. He made play after play in the backfield and flashed big-play ability along the way. He competes hard and gave everything he had when he hit the field. Look for Bryd to keep playing at a high level this fall as a senior.
