Continue ReadingThe Ottawa-Kent Green is going through some changes heading into next season. Although there are some changes, it will remain as one of the strongest leagues in Michigan. This season, Zeeland West/East, Holland, and Wyoming leave, while Byron Center and FHN join. It’s an exciting time for the Green, and this 3-part article series will cover over a dozen prospects in this league. To start, I’ll be going over two players from Forest Hills Northern, Byron Center, and Mona Shores.
’25 S/WR | Landen Conrad | Byron Center | @LandenConrad04
Landen has had himself a good couple of weeks competing in 7on7 tournaments and earning an offer from Hope College. The film below shows several good safety highlights. Landon does a very good job of immediately reacting to the thrown football. Oftentimes, he delivers big hits, forcing the receiver to drop the ball. I’d love to see more of Landen’s game sometime this offseason.
’25 LB/RB | Luke Laska Luke Laska 5'10" | 195 lbs | LB Byron Center | 2025 MI | Byron Center | @LukeLaska
This is a solid inside linebacker. There’s nothing I can point to and say it’s elite, but Luke generally does what he’s asked to do with consistent success. He’s developing his ability to read the offense, and shows flashes of good, semi-fast reads where he fills the gap and makes a tackle. Luke can also work through blocks and make tackles outside of the hashes. A ton of film study, decisiveness, and speed would benefit Luke’s game tremendously.
’25 LB | Ike DeHaan | Forest Hills Northern | Hudl
I like Ike! Although still relatively raw, Ike served as a very solid role player for the Huskies last season. Quickly, he had a few great plays as a running back. I like Ike’s acceleration and top speed, which makes me interested in his combine testing numbers. As a linebacker, he’s a solid tackler with solid reactivity and IQ. That aspect of his game is still developing, but I see a solid foundation. Next season, Ike could be an awesome player if he keeps developing his reactivity and IQ. Film study will play a big role.
’25 WR | Owen Butler | Forest Hills Northern | Hudl
Owen served as a solid possession receiver for the Huskies last season. There were several moments where he was able to find holes in the zone (or run by man coverage) and make the most of his opportunity with a catch. Owen has a solid release and runs very hard on his go/post routes. More attention to detail on his routes and developing a RAC game would significantly help him moving forward.
’25 DT | Ja’Mari Taylor | Mona Shores | @JaMari_taylor60
Ja’Mari is one of the most powerful defensive tackles I’ve seen. Even against great offensive lines, this man cannot be moved. He does a great job at anchoring and even driving back offensive linemen. He’s one of those defenders that you don’t want to run the ball near. Though, there are some things Ja’Mari should work on. Although he’s extremely strong, I’d like to see more of a pass rush/block shedding moveset. He could also benefit from increased flexibility, agility, and effort on some downs. He has all of the physical qualities needed to become an elite defensive tackle, he just has to go get it!
’25 RB | Tyrese McCorvey-Hill | Mona Shores | @TyreseMccorvey
Tyrese has the potential to be a college running back prospect, and he already has a few great traits. First off, his athleticism and open-field abilities are well above-average. Tyrese is able to explode out of his stance and reach top speed quickly, and before you know it, he’s in the endzone after a couple of well-timed jukes. Tyrese also showcases a bit of contact balance, and if he improves in that area, he’ll gain a lot more tough yards. Excited to see what he can do this offseason as well as next season!
