Looking at the larger scale, a very small percentage of teams in South Carolina put their fait in a freshman to run the offense last fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='1199124' first='Judd' last='Windham'] Christ Church

While very few people saw Windham's first 35 touchdown passes of the season while he was lighting up scoreboards for the Christ Church junior varsity, there were plenty of eyes on his final one of the season. Following the completion of his sub-varsity run, Windham was moved up to the varsity for the playoffs. He completed 11-of-17 passes in a back-up role, including a six-of-eight showing in the state championship when [player_tooltip player_id='1013068' first='Tucker' last='Hendrix'] went down. Hendrix is back, but Windham will still likely get more reps.

[player_tooltip player_id='429920' first='Sam' last='Holliday'] Fountain Inn

Young programs need scrappy leaders on the field. Enter Holliday, who last fall as a freshman led the Fury to their first win in school history, another two victories before it was all said and done and 1,100 total yards of offense and 16 total touchdowns. A lot of what he doesn't isn't going to win a positional beauty contest. However, his quick thinking led to some freelanced scores and beat some teams who'd beat up on Fountain Inn just one year prior.

[player_tooltip player_id='309825' first='Grayson' last='Clary'] Daniel

We don't rank many players who don't have varsity experience. Part of our mantra is to weigh top-level production maybe a bit more than other scouting services. Still, Clary is a good reason for us to break our stride. As a freshman last year on the Lions' varsity, he threw for an average of 300 yards and four touchdowns per game. He only had five interceptions in 218 pass attempts and completed about 74 percent of his throws. He hasn't slowed down one bit this offseason. When his time comes, he'll be ready.

[player_tooltip player_id='840548' first='Tre' last='Howard'] Ridge View

Howard (pictured) had a parachute for his freshman season, when [player_tooltip player_id='997121' first='Breylon' last='Boyd'] was the established starter. And even though Boyd threw for 1,700 yards and 13 scores, the effort to ease Howard into the job for 2024 and beyond was apparent. Howard has some solid zip on his short and mid-range throws and mixes in a great deep ball. Now, the coach's son gets the reins and has at his disposal some experienced and blazing fast receivers.

[player_tooltip player_id='1094944' first='Aiden' last='Manavian'] Oceanside Collegiate

Remember what we said about Windham? What Manavian did was that on steroids. The then-freshman had all of four games as the Landsharks' starter - all in the playoffs - and all he did with it was throw for 1,100 yards and 10 touchdowns, including 367 and two in the state championship win over former sister school Gray Collegiate. Manavian has room to grow all the physical tools to keep progressing.

[player_tooltip player_id='1036733' first='Henry' last='Rivers'] Berkeley

Rivers burst onto the scene last fall with a 200-yard, four-touchdown performance in the season opener against Timberland. From there, he really only had two sub-par games, when he threw four of the eight picks he had all season. Rivers has weapons around him, knows when to tuck and run and can make some throws that many a freshmen would love to be able to make. For Rivers to make them in Class 5A ball gives him the early edge in our rankings.
