Kelly will soon gather his first offer, as he is the next up and coming elite tight end/defensive end prospect coming out of the Bay Area, which has no shortage of great ones. He passes the eye test at 6’5 and change and is a well put together kid with a huge catch radius, tracking abilities and strong hands in traffic while a big time red-zone target. He can stretch the field, beat man coverage and does a nice job at using his body to box out smaller defenders while showing YAC abilities as well. Defensively, he has a good inside strike and quick lock out, while also a natural bender off the edge that has a explosive first step, redirect ability and wins with transferring speed to power at the POA. He recently took home positional MVP Honors at the National Preps Showcase earlier this month, and is one of the top 2026 recruits in the northern California region.
Helderman plays on both sides of the ball for Clovis North, but is a big target from his tight end position and is a true possession guy that can settle in zone coverage and has strong hands in traffic. Defensively, he does most of his damage from his defensive end spot, has a quick first step and does a good job at using his length to lock out blockers while very good against the run due to pad level and block recognition. Although in our WL for the tight end position, he is a kid that could end up really developing into a defensive end prospect due to his growth potential, length and frame to pack on weight. Clovis North is coming off their best season in recent memory, and will look to do the same in 2024 with plenty of top tier players returning to the Varsity roster.
Highlights
Melgar is a still developing outside receiver/tight end prospect that could end up packing on weight to his big frame and turn into a next level kid at the tight end possession. He is a physical player off the line when beating man coverage, has a huge catch radius downfield and strong hands in traffic while getting upfield quickly. He shows he can run both in-breaking and outbreaking routes, but is still a raw prospect that is physically developing. He also shows he can line up inline and be effective blocking in the run game, and plays with a high motor and good physicality, especially for a Sophomore. He should have a breakout year in 2024 for one of the better small school teams in the state.
