I was very excited to attend my first 7v7 tournament of the season, and I was not disappointed. At the Nebraska 7v7 tournament, I saw Nebraska-based teams from Omaha, Lincoln, and Aurora while also getting some looks at teams from Iowa and Missouri.
Coach Tank Perry has been busy building up the Nebraska 7v7 tournament circuit to help bring exposure to Nebraska athletes here on our own home turf. The Battle for the Monarch Crown was one of a few tournaments coming up in the NE7v7 series.
I’ll kick off coverage of the tournament with my standouts from the team that won the entire thing: Nebraska Red Wolves. The Red Wolves fielded two teams, with their older squad taking home the championship. I will be highlighting my standouts from both teams here.
Zak Stark | 2025 | QB | Lincoln Southwest |
– The championship winning QB had a fantastic day in which he showcased his serious arm talent very well.
– Having watched Zak last season to how he played today, it’s clear that Zak has taken a major step forward in his development.
– He’s getting the ball out quickly and efficiently while doing a great job protecting the ball from turnovers.
– Starks showed great anticipation for where passing windows would be and was able to lead his receivers open with the ball. He’s showing that he really trusts the play timing and has confidence in his receivers and his arm.
– I also noticed some very impressive sidearm throws and passes where Zak had to adjust his arm angle to be able to fit the ball into tight windows.
– Should be getting more looks!
Levi Sherman Levi Sherman 6'1" | 215 lbs | TE Lincoln Northeast | 2025 State NE | 2025 | TE | Lincoln Northeast | 6’1″ 215 lbs
– Super-physical pass catcher who can use his frame to box out defenders at the catch point.
– People underestimate his speed and quickness. He does a great job getting vertical and slips past defenses for big gains on several occasions.
– Reliable hands. Very consistent throughout the catch process.
– Runs great routes and flashes the ability to create separation when manned up with defenders.
Dane Omel Dane Omel 6'0" | 185 lbs | ATH Lincoln Southeast | 2025 State NE | 2025 | ATH | Lincoln Southeast | 6’0″ 185 lbs
– One of the two-way players you need to be paying attention to NOW!!
– The first thing that I noticed was that Dane bulked up big time, which he accredited to going all-in on his rehab after suffering an injury. He is an impressive-looking player right off the bat.
– Very smart player regardless of what side of the ball he’s on. Offensively, he can exploit weak spots in defenses. Defensively, he quickly diagnoses plays and flows in coverage very well.
– It doesn’t matter if the ball is intended for him or not, Dane is going to go up for it and snag the catch/interception. Very good ball skills.
Presley Hall Presley Hall ATH Lincoln East | 2025 NE | 2025 | ATH | Lincoln East | 6’1″ 175 lbs
– One of the biggest eye-openers of the day! I got a great first in-person look at Presley.
– Hall was a key player on the Red Wolves defense, playing with a physical, mean edge to his game.
– Reads the QB/offense very well and has the speed and range to get to his spot from anywhere on the field.
– Versatile player who could play linebacker, safety, nickel, receiver, etc. Plug-in-play type of player.
