I was very excited to attend my first 7v7 tournament of the season, and I was not disappointed. At the Nebraska 7v7 tournament, I saw Nebraska-based teams from Omaha, Lincoln, and Aurora while also getting some looks at teams from Iowa and Missouri.
Coach Tank Perry has been busy building up the Nebraska 7v7 tournament circuit to help bring exposure to Nebraska athletes here on our own home turf. The Battle for the Monarch Crown was one of a few tournaments coming up in the NE7v7 series.
The Epic7 crew brought down 2 teams to the tournament with one of their squads making it all the way to the championship game. There were several standouts from this team, so I’ll have to split my standouts into two parts.
Jack Utz Jack Utz 6'4" | 220 lbs | TE Platte County | 2026 State MO | 2026 | TE | Platte County (MO) | 6’5″ 220 lbs
– “Right off the bus” sized player who catches your attention immediately.
– Moves extremely well for his size and can use his big 6’5″ and 220-pound frame to box out defenders when going up for the ball.
– Top-tier catch radius with the reach and strong hands to haul in anything thrown in his vicinity.
– Very tough. Made some difficult receptions in traffic and through contact.
– Was not surprised at all when I checked Jack’s Twitter and saw he had seven D-1 offers from programs like Baylor, Arkansas, Iowa State, Mizzou, and more. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him rise up on national recruiting boards after this summer.
Braiden Stevens Braiden Stevens 5'9" | 150 lbs | WR Platte County | 2026 MO | 2026 | WR/DB | Platte County (MO) | 5’9″ 145 lbs
– One of the first players to catch my attention today. Braiden’s shiftiness caught me (and several defenders) off guard.
– Very dangerous with the ball in his hands. Has the agility and quickness to erase any tackling angles that defenders have on him.
– Stevens did an excellent job creating separation and finding ways to break into weak zones in coverage.
– Not the biggest guy on the field but definitely one of the more explosive players when he’s out there.
– Quick out of his stance, crisp footwork, and can explode through his change of direction.
Trashundon Neal | 2026 | Liberty North (MO) | 6’2″ 137 lbs
Hudl | Twitter
– Great-looking cornerback who fits the new-age mold of DBs who are tall with very lengthy frames.
– Very smooth in coverage. Quick out of his backpedal and plays with fluid hips to change directions on a drop.
– Embraces physicality and can use his length to get inside the opposing receiver’s frames to press them and disrupt route timing.
– Will also fight with receivers through the catch process and can use his long arms to break up passes.
– Had some great reps at wide receiver as well.
– Talented 2026 with tons of upside!
William Yeldell | 2026 | TE | Olathe South (KS) | 6’5″ 200 lbs
– Another elite TE target for the Epic7 team with lots of potential as a prospect.
– Yeldell seemed to be open on crucial downs consistently and was always available for a big catch.
– Size like a tight end but fluidity and route running like a receiver… dangerous pairing.
– A terror over the middle of the field and in the redzone. He was a complete mismatch no matter who lined up with him, and he found ways to exploit those deficiencies quickly.
