Continue ReadingPrep Redzone Louisiana will release its new 2025 rankings this week, followed by 2026 updates and the first 2027 rankings.
Leading up to the complete, 250-player list on Tuesday, we will count down the top 50 in more detail.
And make sure to check back following the release for additional features and notes on the 2025 cohort, including looks at debuts, stock-risers and the loaded running back, defensive line and defensive back groups.
No. 20 Russell Babineaux Russell Babineaux 5'9" | 160 lbs | ATH Acadiana | 2025 State LA — 5-9, 160 ATH — Acadiana
Babineaux is a smaller, but speedy and versatile athlete who has a highly ranked Prep Redzone Louisiana prospect throughout his high school career. In addition to his primary role as a pass-catcher or ball-carrier on offense, he stepped in some at quarterback for his Wreckin’ Rams’ veer attack and also played well in a heavy defensive role as a cornerback. Babineaux is a dangerous route-runner and sure-handed receiver as a potential slot, but has started to look the part of a potential nickel at the next level as well.
No. 19 Jaylon Coleman Jaylon Coleman 5'9" | 160 lbs | ATH Vandebilt Catholic | 2025 State LA — 5-9, 160 ATH — Vandebilt Catholic
One of Louisiana’s fastest 2025 prospects has been another mainstay near the top of the rankings throughout the past three years. Coleman is a home-run threat any time he touches the ball, whether on offense or in the return game. Finding the right fits of program and role will be a key aspect of his recruitment and transition to college as a smaller back, but he’s a dynamic weapon with the ball in his hands and has also shown good route-running ability as a potential slot that provides some more versatility.
No. 18 Landon Hammond Landon Hammond 6'2" | 160 lbs | DB Opelousas | 2025 State LA — 6-2, 160 DB — Opelousas
The first of particularly big-risers in this segment of the countdown, Hammond was largely lockdown on his side of the field to help the Tigers’ defense on the way to their first-ever state championship. The long, lean cornerback has quick feet and track speed and a wiry strength that helps him as a willing and effective tackler. Tulane, Arkansas, Arizona State, UCF, Georgia Tech and Boston College have been among his notable and recent offers.
No. 17 J.T. Lindsey J.T. Lindsey 5'11" | 190 lbs | RB Alexandria | 2025 State LA — 5-11, 180 RB — Alexandria
Continuing the run of top-end track speed kicking off the top 20, Lindsey leaps up the rankings and into the top handful of running backs in an absolutely loaded Louisiana class at the position. The Trojans’ standout is among the fastest of the bunch with his 4.48-second 40-yard and 10.85-second 100-meter dashes, but also shows the power and balance to break through contact.
No. 16 Nate Sheppard Nate Sheppard 5'11" | 185 lbs | RB Mandeville | 2025 State LA — 5-11, 185 RB — Mandeville
Another jump up the list for the Skippers’ star, who had hovered around No. 25 in the previous two rankings updates. Sheppard hasn’t seem to garner the same headlines locally or nationally as a couple of Louisiana’s other top prospects in the state’s loaded running back class, but he has done his outright-prolific part to prove himself as very much one of the best. Sheppard led Mandeville to the semifinals with his 2,155 yards of total offense — 1,847 yards and 32 touchdowns on 270 carries and another 308 yards and four scores receiving. He has good size, listed 20 pounds heavier than earlier updates, and is a well-rounded prospect with his combination of power, breakaway speed, balance, ball security and pass-catching ability.
No. 15 Phillip Wright III Phillip Wright III 6'0" | 160 lbs | WR Destrehan | 2025 State LA — 6-0, 160 WR — Destrehan
Wright’s track résumé now includes 10.46-second 100-meter, 21.41-second 200-meter and 48.35-second 400-meter dashes, speed that stretches the field vertically and keeps defenses off-balance with his ability to break screens, sweeps and reverses for long gains. The (likely two-sport) target of LSU, Baylor, Mississippi State, Tulane, Miami, Georgia Tech, Penn State and a long list of others has a nice feel for how to maximize his speed in his route-running.
No. 14 Brett Bordelon Brett Bordelon 6'5" | 315 lbs | OL Isidore Newman | 2025 State LA — 6-5, 305 OL — Isidore Newman
The LSU-committed offensive lineman has been a top-tier offensive linemen in the class from early on and has developed into a leader for both his Greenies team and his 2025 Tigers class. Bordelon has also shown notable physical development, listed another 40 pounds stronger than at the time of previous updates, while maintaining his good flexibility, mobility and motor, which he shows on both sides of the ball in high school driving through and finishing blocks on offense and getting into opposing backfields when playing on the defensive front.
No. 13 John David LaFleur John David LaFleur 6'6" | 240 lbs | TE Sulphur | 2025 State LA — 6-6, 240 TE — Sulphur
Tight ends have become a much more consistent and dangerous weapon in LSU’s passing game during the past five years, and a deep room at the position is expected to play a major role in 2024. The son of former Tigers and Dallas Cowboys tight end David LaFleur will keep that recent run and the family legacy going strong in the years to come with the big body, physicality as a blocker and sure hands in the passing game that have made him a weapon for Sulphur throughout his high school career and figure to make him a difference-maker in Baton Rouge.
No. 12 Devon Oliver Devon Oliver 6'3" | 275 lbs | DL Parkway | 2025 State LA — 6-3, 275 DL — Parkway
Making by far the biggest rankings leap among defensive linemen, Oliver is a stout, strong tackle who gets off the line with good explosiveness and keeps his powerful legs moving to consistently drive blockers — and eventually ball-carriers — backward. He appears to have grown an inch or more from his previous 6-foot-2 listing, carries his 270-275 pounds well and shows a good motor on film. SMU, Houston, Missouri, Central Arkansas, UTSA, Vanderbilt and ULM have all extended recent offers.
No. 11 Aidan Anding Aidan Anding 5'11" | 165 lbs | DB Ruston | 2025 State LA — 5-11, 165 DB — Ruston
The Bearcats’ multisport standout debuted strong at No. 50 this past summer based largely on the athletic profile he showcased on the basketball court, track and in a summer camp stop at hometown Louisiana Tech. This fall, in his first season of football, he looked the part of one of the top tier of cornerbacks in the state’s rising junior class. Anding is cat-quick with impressive springy, quick-leaping athleticism that helps him make consistent plays against even much bigger receivers.
