Leading up to the complete, 400-player list on Thursday, we will count down the top 40 in more detail.
And make sure to check back following the release for additional features and notes on the 2024 cohort as we close the recruiting book on the class as they begin their college careers.
10. Wardell Mack Wardell Mack 6'1" | 180 lbs | DB John Ehret | 2024 State LA — 6-1, 180 DB — John Ehret —> Texas
The versatile defensive back and three-phase playmaker for his Patriots throughout his high school career has been a top-10 prospect in Prep Redzone Louisiana’s 2024 rankings since the first list three years ago and finishes as such as he heads to the Longhorns for college. Mack is a smart, disciplined leader in the secondary with good athleticism and ball skills and a willingness to tackle, including some hard-hitting ability.
9. Ahmad Breaux Ahmad Breaux 6'3" | 260 lbs | DL Ruston | 2024 State LA — 6-3, 260 DL — Ruston —> LSU
The highest-ranked prospect on the Bearcats’ stingy and historic championship-winning defense remains a top-10 prospect on the final list. Breaux heads to college listed 10 pounds stronger than the previous update with good athleticism and versatility at his size with disruptive plays rushing the passer, stopping the run and dropping into coverage from positions inside, on the end and standing up as a linebacker.
8. Ju’Juan Johnson Ju’Juan Johnson 6'0" | 195 lbs | ATH Lafayette Christian | 2024 State LA — 6-0, 195 ATH — Lafayette Christian —> LSU
Louisiana’s Class 4A Offensive MVP and Mr. Football award winner broke the state’s records for career yardage and touchdowns as a senior and led his Knights to a fourth straight state championship game in his high school career. He completed 68 percent of his passes for 3,597 yards and 41 touchdowns as the team’s quarterback, while rushing for 1,497 yards, 25 scores and a long reel of highlights with the ball in his hands that showed some of the toughness and athleticism that intrigue coaches and fans in his potential as a defensive back.
7. Kylan Billiot Kylan Billiot 6'3" | 185 lbs | WR Terrebonne | 2024 State LA — 6-3, 185 WR — Terrebonne —> LSU
Terrebonne’s multisport standout caught 31 passes for 462 yards — an average of 14.9 yards per catch — and nine touchdowns in his final high school season. Billiot’s height, length, speed, ball skills and fluid, basketball athleticism make him a dangerous pass-catcher with his best football seemingly still ahead of him as he gets to college focused on one sport and working with LSU’s coaches, both at the position and in the strength and conditioning program.
6. Gabriel Reliford Gabriel Reliford 6'2" | 270 lbs | DL Evangel Christian | 2024 State LA — 6-2, 270 DL — Evangel Christian —> LSU
One final climb for the explosive edge rusher, who showed some flashes of dominance during his senior season at Evangel Christian, a Class 4A Defensive MVP campaign. The one-time Texas A&M commit racked up 122 tackles, including 29 for loss and nine sacks, before announcing a new college pledge to home-state LSU amid the coaching changes in College Station, Texas.
5. Da’Shawn McBryde Da’Shawn McBryde 6'3" | 200 lbs | DB Denham Springs | 2024 State LA — 6-3, 200 DB — Denham Springs —> LSU
The Yellow Jackets’ standout finished his high school career with 43 tackles, two interceptions and nine breakups as a senior as opponents made a more conscious effort to stay away from him after his program-record nine picks as a junior. McBryde has high-level anticipation ball skills, but has always been a more well-rounded safety than just those takeaway numbers with his not only willing, but hard-hitting physicality.
4. Tylen Singleton Tylen Singleton 6'1" | 210 lbs | DB Many | 2024 State LA — 6-1, 205 DB/LB — Many —> LSU
Singleton has lived in the top five of the Prep Redzone Louisiana rankings throughout his high school career and finishes at No. 4. He burst onto the list following a freshman season as a long, lean two-way athlete who earned title-game Outstanding Player honors with a 23-yard pick-six and continued to develop physically — to a point of being expected to start his college career at linebacker — and make a wide range of plays all over the field.
3. Kolaj Cobbins Kolaj Cobbins 6'2" | 220 lbs | LB Destrehan | 2024 State LA — 6-2, 220 LB — Destrehan —> LSU
“Tut” remains at No. 3 in the final rankings, listed another 5 pounds heavier, as an increasingly strong and well-rounded edge-rusher to go along with the explosiveness, quickness and motor that first stood out as an underclassman. The LSU signee’s final high school season included 77 tackles, 32 for loss and 12 sacks, as well as 16 hurries, three forced fumbles and an interception.
2. Trey’Dez Green Trey’Dez Green 6'7" | 225 lbs | ATH Zachary | 2024 State LA — 6-7, 225 TE/WR — Zachary —> LSU
Green finished his high school career at Class 5A Zachary, helping highlight the perennial power’s return to a state championship game, after previously attending Class 2A East Feliciana. And in addition to holding up against the bigger, more physical and deeper competition at the state’s highest level, Green was able to showcase his special athleticism as a well-rounded receiver prospect on the biggest stages as well. The LSU signee is still expected to begin his college career at tight end, but should bring some notable versatility — along with his size, fluidity and ball skills — to the Tigers’ offense.
1. Dominick McKinley Dominick McKinley 6'5" | 275 lbs | DL Acadiana | 2024 State LA — 6-5, 275 DL — Acadiana —> LSU
McKinley entered his senior season as Louisiana’s top-ranked prospect and a Texas A&M commit and now concludes high school still atop the rankings, but staying in-state for college at LSU. McKinley obviously brings rare size, but also some impressive quickness, athleticism and even ball skills in that big frame — looking just as comfortable catching the ball, including snatching screen passes, as he does exploding into the backfield for tackles behind the line.
