Here’s a look at the four prospects who joined the top 50 with their first rankings thus far after breakout junior campaigns.
No. 25 Witten Van Hoy Witten Van Hoy 6'7" | 305 lbs | OL Benton | 2025 State LA — 6-7, 305 OL — Benton
The big tackle garners the top ranking for a Benton prospect since Prep Redzone Louisiana began covering the state during the 2021 cycle, and No. 25 may only be the beginning. We haven’t had the chance to see Van Hoy in person yet, but he looks the part on film of one of the top few offensive linemen in the class. He has a huge frame and appears to boast impressive mobility and balance at his size from his quick first step to getting upfield in the running game.
No. 26 Jacob Washington Jacob Washington 6'3" | 180 lbs | WR Archbishop Shaw | 2025 State LA — 6-3, 180 WR — Archbishop Shaw
Washington debuts as the No. 3 receiver prospect on the latest rankings update with an intriguing combination of length and catch radius, 4.4-second 40-yard speed, soft hands and body control on plays in the air. The Eagles’ promising pass catcher has blown up on the recruiting trail during the past few months with Arkansas, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Missouri, Penn State, Houston, Duke, Georgia Tech, Louisiana Tech, UCF, Boston College, Toledo, ULM and Arkansas State among the long list of recent offers.
No. 34 Joshua Lewis Joshua Lewis 6'5" | 240 lbs | DL Dutchtown | 2025 State LA — 6-5, 240 DL — Dutchtown
The Griffins’ long, quick edge rusher debuted in the 2025 rankings this week as a top-35 prospect overall and No. 6 in an increasingly strong Louisiana defensive line class with at least half a dozen, if not double digit, major-college prospects in the position group. Lewis has one of the longest frames in that bunch and also stands out with his quickness at the snap and past blockers and his closing speed once in pursuit. Houston, Missouri, Oregon State, Georgia Tech, Cal, Louisiana (Lafayette) and Louisiana Tech have been among a huge run of offers to start the offseason.
No. 42 Ferzell Shepard Ferzell Shepard 6'2" | 175 lbs | WR Scotlandville | 2025 State LA — 6-2, 175 WR — Scotlandville
Another top-50 overall and top-six position debut for an intriguing receiver prospect with a good frame and notable athletic profile. Shepard boasts a long résumé of school records, state championships and national rankings in several track events — most notably his long jump, triple jump and 400-meter. Texas Tech, Louisiana (Lafayette), UTSA and Arkansas State have been among his early run of offers, with interest from LSU and others heading into spring ball and summer camps.
