Several teams throughout New Mexico are hoping for better things in 2024, starting with a few more wins. Here are five teams looking to bounce back in the fall:

CIBOLA: The Cougars were winless in Chris Howe's first season as head coach. But Cibola was extremely young last season as they attempt to rebuild the roster from the Aden Chavez Era. Rising junior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='851864' first='Noah' last='Carroll'] now has a year of experience under his belt and LB [player_tooltip player_id='854199' first='Hayes' last='Baum'] is one of the top young defensive players in the Albuquerque Metro Region.

MORIARTY: The Pintos started last season 4-0 but things began to unravel with back-to-back close losses to Bernalillo and Miyamura. Moriarty lost five of their final six games and failed to make the playoffs for the first time in years. Moriarty will keep doing what they do which is run the football out of the triple option and play good defense. [player_tooltip player_id='1258989' first='Caedon' last='Kamplain'] is a solid RB.

ORGAN MOUNTAIN: As we chronicled yesterday, Organ Mountain is completely rebuilding under second-year head coach Kenneth Sanchez, a former MaxPreps National Coach of the Year. As he told us, it's just a matter of getting the right players in the right positions, starting at QB. The Knights need to channel the positive energy from the Organ Mountain boys' basketball team, which reached the Class 5A state championship game.

RUIDOSO: A season after capturing the Class 3A championship, Ruidoso fell to 1-9 last season. But the Warriors have an abundance of young talent and should bounce back quickly. QB Cade Holland, RB [player_tooltip player_id='1267035' first='Tru' last='Camejo'], RB [player_tooltip player_id='854298' first='Ashdyn' last='Urban'], DB [player_tooltip player_id='615689' first='Trenton' last='Hall'] and DE [player_tooltip player_id='1266528' first='Briggs' last='Beavers'] all return in 2024, so look for the Warriors to contend for a high seed in the 3A playoffs.

SANTA TERESA: With a roster dominated by freshman and sophomores, Sanat Teresa had one of the youngest teams in the state last season. But the Desert Warriors have been a very good program in the recent past (9-3 in 2021). Dynamic dual threat QB [player_tooltip player_id='1137846' first='Nicholas' last='Vierra'] and several other promising young players will be counted on to help return Santa Teresa to its winning ways.
