FLORENCE | The present and future of South Carolina high school football was again on display Sunday afternoon at West Florence courtesy of the Carolinas Coaches Combine.
The afternoon session featured 190 underclassmen from the Grand Strand & Pee Dee and Midlands. It saw overall complete performances from event Most Valuable Player offensive lineman Zyon Guiles Zyon Guiles 6'5" | 260 lbs | OL Carvers Bay | 2026 State SC of Carvers Bay as well as individual strong showings from the likes of defensive back Jordyn Adams of Lower Richland and running back Trevon Williamson Trevon Williamson 6'0" | 200 lbs | RB Gilbert | 2027 State SC of Gilbert.
Along with providing valuable recruiting data for college scouts, the combine included blue tickets to standout performers. These tickets serve as invitations to the revamped Joanne Langfitt Challenge Myrtle Beach in December.
This year’s challenge will include 75 underclassmen from South Carolina facing off against players from North Carolina. They will take part in a series of combine drills and competitions the day before the Touchstone Energy Bowl.
A total of 11 “blue tickets” were issued Sunday with two multiple winners:
Most Valuable Player: Zyon Guiles Zyon Guiles 6'5" | 260 lbs | OL Carvers Bay | 2026 State SC OL, Carvers Bay
At 6-foot-4 and 278 pounds, the rising junior put together an all-around effort both during the combine drills and one-on-one competition. He was rarely beaten during blocking drills as he used his 81-inch wingspan to control the charging defender.
Top Offensive Lineman: Ethan Cash OL, South Florence
Measuring just under 6-foot-5 and 342 pounds, the rising junior was the tallest player at the combine and second in weight only to Darlington rising junior Jaiden Green (352 pounds). He utilized his size to go with a workmanlike technique to stand out among the coaches.
Top Defensive Lineman: Malachi Gethers DL, Myrtle Beach
While on the smaller side as compared with other defensive linemen at the combine, the 5-foot-10, 215-pound rising junior measured high in perseverance, enthusiasm and a willingness to compete numerous times in one-on-one drills. Gethers showed a non-stop motor in taking on larger offensive linemen and rarely stopped to take a break.
Top Combo (Offense): Trevon Williamson Trevon Williamson 6'0" | 200 lbs | RB Gilbert | 2027 State SC RB, Gilbert
As a freshman, the 6-foot, 197-pounder was a mid-season revelation for the Indians. He immediately became a focal point of the offense with multiple 200-plus yard games and showed those skills during the position drills.
Top Combo (Defense): Terry Gordon Terry Gordon 6'0" | 220 lbs | LB South Florence | 2026 State SC LB, South Florence
The Class of 2026 linebacker demonstrated his strength as he and Romello Patterson Romello Patterson 6'1" | 190 lbs | LB West Florence | 2026 State SC of West Florence were the only participants to post 24 reps during the bench press. He also had a vertical leap of 23.6 inches, measured 8.9 on the broad jump and was a persistent defender during individual drills.
Top Offensive Skill: Ayntwain Crawford WR, Mullins
The 6-foot-1, 182-pounder was measured with the longest wingspan (82 inches) of any wide receiver at the combine. His length and speed made him a preferable target for the quarterbacks during passing drills.
Top Defensive Skill: Jordyn Best DB, Lower Richland
The 5-foot-10, 168-pound rising junior was one of the most productive combine participants. He not only performed on a consistently high level during the drills, but he also posted the highest vertical leap at 29.1 inches. Best was also a difficult one-on-one matchup for wide receivers with his speed and technique.
Fastest 40: Khristian Jackson Khristian Jackson 5'11" | 170 lbs | WR Ridge View | 2027 State SC WR, Ridge View
Blazers’ head coach Derek Howard spoke highly about the rising sophomore. His 4.5 time in the 40-yard dash gives the potential hope of Jackson becoming a reliable weapon for rising junior quarterback Tre Howard Tre Howard 5'10" | 160 lbs | QB Ridge View | 2027 State SC (who won the Leadership Award) and another player to line up opposite All-State standout Jordon Gidron Jordon Gidron 6'2" | 185 lbs | WR Ridge View | 2026 State SC .
Fastest Pro Shuffle: LaDamien Belton RB, Crestwood
The rising junior posted the fastest time of anyone in West Florence at 4.13 seconds. His work during the individual drills shows the promise of helping the Knights’ depth with the graduation of leading rusher Azarian Yates Azarian Yates 5'11" | 210 lbs | RB Crestwood | 2024 State SC .
