Continue ReadingIn my weekly quarterback reports I like to focus on a wide range of quarterback attributes and point out areas of emphasis for these elite high school athletes. This includes the tangible aspects of being a dual threat QB – strong, accurate arm, good size, speed, agility, etc.; and the intangibles – processing speed, situational awareness, poise in the pocket, leadership, distraction control, etc. It is a complex mix of attributes that every athlete has to sort out and optimize.
And in a team sport, optimizing is not done in a vacuum. It is achieved by elite athletes working and playing together. There are a lot of moving pieces and each one is critically important in the overall scheme of things. One connection in particular where the synching up of attributes is important is the quarterback-wide receiver combo. In this day and age of explosive offenses, the quickest way to the endzone is through a prime-time QB-WR arial attack.
These quick-strike offensive weapons can usually pile up touchdowns through sheer athleticism, but elite QB-WR combo’s transcend that. The best of the best realize that to optimize the offense the timing on passes and routing has to be precise. When the play breaks down, they know how to adjust in synch to make something happen. They trust each other and know through practice and time spent that they can count on each other to consistently do what is expected and get to the right spots.
In this report I will dig into some of the top-end quarterback-wide receiver connections in the Wichita area for the coming 2024 season. There will be subsequent reports to cover the QB-WR combo’s outside of the Wichita area in the next couple of weeks.
When I first started looking into this report I thought it would be easy to flush out a handful of senior combo’s and kick out a report fairly quickly. However, the more I kept looking, the more talent I came across. Consequently, it will be split into several reports. This report will be more of an overview of who the QB-WR combo’s are in the area and how they will be grouped. The follow-on reports will get into the specifics why they have been successful and why they will continue to be in 2024.
There will be three QB-WR groups: Larger Schools, Smaller Schools & New Connections. I added the latter since there are a couple of QB-WR combos on the list who are relatively new, without much if any history. So, without further adieu, here are the Wichita Area QB-WR Combos of note:
