The vast majority of the Illinois Class of 2024 have announced their decisions and signed with their teams on National Signing Day. However, within the current Top 100 are four athletes unsigned and still deciding on their future home. These four athletes are the best of the best that coaches need to know if they are still looking to finish off their 2024 recruiting classes. The tape is linked for each athlete. Let’s see what they have to offer!
The top uncommitted senior in IL is Kenwood Academy’s Mako Grant Mako Grant 5’11” | 185 lbs | ATH Kenwood Academy | 2024 State IL . The 5’11” 185 lbs athlete shined on both sides of the ball in ’23. At LB, Mako flies around the field. He is an instinctual, rangy LB who delivers devastating hits every chance he can. Grant offers the ability to line up in the slot and run with shifty WRs. On offense, Grant is a well rounded RB. He has the speed to run or receive out in space. Between the tackles Mako shows off lateral agility, quick twitch athleticism, and the burst to create big plays when given even the smallest seam to daylight. Grant can help on either side of the ball at the next level.
We stay right on the same team, and don’t have to move far down the rankings for our next steal in the 2024 Class. Ethan made his big impact in the Kenwood Academy backfield in 2023. Ethan dominated with his combination of vision/instincts and physical tools. He reads blocks, sets up LBs, presses the hole, and then can juke or jump cut into open field. From there he has the speed to create the big plays. Ethan is also a viable threat as a receiver out in space with soft hands and the ability to easily shake DBs one on one.
Highlights
The top OL is Kaden Garland Kaden Garland 6’4″ | 280 lbs | OL Oak Park-River Forest | 2024 State IL out of Oak Park- River Forest. He has been picking up steam on the recruiting trail recently. The tape shows why. Kaden fits the idea of a dancing bear perfectly. His lower body allows him to slide and mirror rushers in pass protection or accelerate out of his stance in the run game to wall off DL or LBs at level two. His upper body brings the power. The heavy hands control opponents. The senior did. great job of keeping those heavy hands inside when striking too. Between the size, strength, and athleticism Kaden looks like an FBS prospect.
Rasheed is the type of Swiss Army knife that an OC should love to have. You can line him up in the backfield or out in the slot. On the ground he has the speed to get the edge and beat pursuit angles. He will also step up and be a willing blocker for his QB. Or you can put him in the slot and let him use his quickness to open up separation and then give the defense nightmares trying to contain him after the catch. Rasheed is a matchup nightmare that can give defenses fits as they try to find a way to contain him.
