When Fred Hicks was named head football coach last June, the plan was to take Dade City Pasco and bring the Pirates' football program back to where they had been – in the 80s, 90s and into the 2000s.

Coming from a winning environment at Seffner Armwood, Hicks knew exactly what was needed to elevate a football program and start to compete and eventually win.

While his first season produced only two wins, this isn't about restoring the team for a year or two. It's all about development and putting together a team that will continue to grow.

Success is gained in the off-season – not only by conditioning and a weight-training program but competing. Having skilled players and linemen going to events and workouts where they will compete and get better.

As we head toward spring, the objective is to not dwell on the wins or losses. If you work hard those things will certainly take care of themselves.
