Continue ReadingFran Brown has entered the Dome, and there is no looking back in Syracuse, NY. Honing from Camden New Jersey, Fran has made an instant impact on recruiting within the state of New Jersey. With some recruits flipping to commit to the Orange, and others transferring in, Syracuse is a head of schedule when it comes to a rebuild. While they finished the regular season 6-6 last season, Syracuse’s 2024 schedule makes not only a winning record very realistic, but a contender for the ACC Championship is within sight as well. Here are some of the commits heading upstate that will have an immediate impact on Syracuse’s success next season.
Bringing in the number one recruit in the state, Kyle McCord and Co. will be thrilled to add Emanuel Ross Emanuel Ross 6’2″ | 185 lbs | WR Red Bank Catholic | 2024 State NJ to their aerial assault. Arguably the most college ready player in New Jersey, Emanuel has the dimensions to dominate downfield. Scoring 14 offensive touchdowns and over 1000 yards between the ground and air, Emanuel was a nightmare to 1 on 1 coverage in 2023.
This is one of the most explosive players out of the gate. When running the ball, he has the ability to turn upfield and accelerate like few others can. Emanuel outcompetes the defender for the ball as he consistently catches it at its highest point. Flipping from Stanford to Syracuse, Emanuel will play a pivotal role in Syracuse’s rebuilt offense.
Not only did Syracuse snag the top receiver in New Jersey, but they were able to bring in the highest ranked running back in New Jersey as well in Yasin Willis Yasin Willis 6’1″ | 200 lbs | RB St. Joseph’s | 2024 State NJ . Yasin had an impressive senior season, as he ran the ball into the end zone 12 times and compiled just under 1000 offensive yards. A back that had a ton of success running it up the gut, there is zero fluff in Yasin’s running style. He makes ones cut and hits the hole with speed and power. With the strength and size of a linebacker, it was no easy task to bring Yasin down to the ground. He would simply break through multiple tackles as he continued on to the end zone.
It’s no secret that Syracuse saw New Jersey as a goldmine for receiver talent. Jaylan Hornsby Jaylan Hornsby 6’3″ | 185 lbs | WR Winslow | 2024 State NJ , the second highest ranked wide receiver in the state and number 4 recruit overall, is a player you want to keep your eyes on once he’s on the field for ‘Cuse. A flash on the field, if the defender loses track of Jaylan you can bet they aren’t catching up.
Jaylan is the type of player you that can take advantage of single coverage every play. He is a tall target, barely needing to leave the ground to take the ball from the defender, but if the jump ball is necessary, you can be sure he will be the one coming down with it. A player that can create huge separation, look for Jaylan on Saturdays next fall.
One of the most dominant defenders in the state, Fatim Diggs Fatim Diggs 6’3″ | 225 lbs | ATH Woodrow Wilson | 2024 State NJ is ready to continue his success up north. Accumulating 109 tackles and 9.5 sacks from the linebacker position, Fatim is quicker than most running backs and quarterbacks he went up against. With elite speed and lateral movement, Fatim was able to bring pressure and flood the QB out of the pocket all season long, only to chase them down from behind for the sack. A player with great anticipation and understanding of game situations and tendencies, Fatim has the ability to shine for the Orange defense where he will reunite with his brother Fadil.
The final receiver on this list and the third highest ranked in the state, Ta’Ron Haile Ta’Ron Haile 6’1″ | 170 lbs | WR Millville | 2024 State NJ will be bringing his elite speed to a very talented offensive unit. Part of one of the best aerial attacks in the state in Millville, Ta’Ron was able to rack up 650 yards and 5 touchdowns in 2023. With impeccable foot work off of the line, Ta’Ron is the type of player you can dump the ball off to behind the line of scrimmage and he can take it the distance. Running through the defense with elite speed and vision, Ta’Ron is able to navigate swiftly through the secondary as he sprints on by.
